POR-15 anti-rust treatment

Post by collega »

Hello, everybody!

Is anybody has some experience with anti-rust product POR-15? I would like to use it on my truck's undercarriage: frame, suspension parts etc. Any suggestions about this product?

Thank you.

That stuff is AMAZING! I use it everywhere I can and it really does eliminate any and all rust!!!

Best thing to do is to clean everything as best as you can with a wire brush and then paint it with the POR-15...then you will have piece of mind!

It's nice to hear about this product! And shortly after applying POR-15 I am planing to do anti- rust protection from Krown. I already did it one time to my truck, but that stuff is from clear oil and still showing rust on truck's underbody, despite protection. So I would like to put together nice look plus rust protection.

Problem that I need to find something like ramp or etacade to lift my truck high enough to clean everything very well first and after apply POR-15 and it should be done in open spase outside, because this product could be toxic a bit. So I don't know how is better to do this procedure?

It is no more toxic than regular paint. I use it often on parts in my garage!

For the rust proofing, I would suggest the Ziebart treatment as it is a heavy coating of a form of grease. It has held up great on my H2...I am due for a recoat after almost 5 years!

I don't know how can do it in my garage? I need to clean first undercarriage from rust a lot and after that it will be hard to reach all spots under truck to apply POR-15 or any other paint.

I was also wondering how you are going to get into all the nook and crannies. If you were going to do a frame off. Or had a 3" body lift then it would be conceivable.

At this point I think you would be best off just getting it crown sprayed spring and fall. It will turn black eventually.

I did my frame on my CJ and 5 yrs later it still looks fresh and you could eat off it. But it is a garage queen and doesn't see rain or snow. I also had just the frame with nothing on it as my old one was finished which makes it way easier.

I would like to clean the frame from corrosion as much as I can. After that I will apply probably POR-15 or may be just rust converter( Rust check brand). After that I will try to paint undercarriage of my truck with black color Tremclad anti-rust paint and only after that I will go for Krown anti-rust spray to cover freshly painted surface and try to protect it from the future rust.
