Engine degreaser

Post by Monk »

Well, I forget name off head of the name brand, but bought a purple spray bottle of a foam degreaser,

Sooooo my engine is greasy and I figured clean up.

While block was cold I sprayed , waited then rinsed, so much filth came off, so that part was great,

I noticed the aluminum intake has a white haze, and my brass ctis fittings has some black, and green haze on that as well

Spent a lot of time cleaning them back off. Lol a pain.....What would cause that? What's a better cleaner?

Best thing i have ever used was industrial Citrosolve. I can buy one gallon jugs for about 35 dollars which is a much better price point than buying cans of Canadian Tire Heavy duty engine cleaner that isn't all that good at 6 bucks a can. The Citrosolve smells like strong oranges and cleans grease big time. I am out actually and have to get a new jug of the stuff.
I do not use pressure washers or water on the truck if i can help it.. I haven't washed my truck since the AMG event several years back. After degrease only very light water to rinse off the chemical and 30 psi air to dry.
The most important part of degreasing is regreasing!!
My cleaning supplies consist of
Vaseline
Dexron 3
Acetone
WD-40
30 psi air
A variety of scrub brushes and rags.
Oh yeah ,,And citrosolve

I completely agree on the regreasing parts as well,

Yea I like to keep my truck shiny, while I'm still in working on truck, part,

But even when I used to off-road ,after I drive straight to a truck wash to get big stuff underneath off,

then back home , to Wash again to make look shiny again and clean interior from mud. Lol that was hours.

Is the dextron used for rust? After you tremclad?

I want to spray something in my a-arms,inside doors, and hidden areas not sure what to use,

I apply Dex 3 with a paint brush to underside parts wait a day or two and wipe off any excess. Tremclad seems to like it thus far and salt residue will just wipe off. A couple times i cleaned the body with it and i would do it again but i usually use Vaseline up top.
Dexron has a variety of rust/ moisture inhibitors. That is why when you open up a 20 year old transmission everything looks brand new. A lot of guys use it a penetrating oil to get bolts out. Mixed 50/50 with acetone its probably about 2x better than Kroil or any other penetrating oil on the market.
