Newbie ? Front and Rear Diff and Transfer case oil change interval

Post by eebh2 »

Just want to check at what intervals the front, rear and transfer case oil needs changed at on a Hummer H2? Also how bout the transmission fluid as well. I recently purchased my Hummer H2 so wanted to get this all done as I am not sure of previous service records.

As far as I know 50000km, for diffs and case, I'd just change all and you know your good for few years

Plus their nice do it yourself jobs.

Actually what most people do not realize is that if you are using a standard 80W-90 gear oil you need to replace it once a year! This would apply to all Hummer H1s. Factory fill on all Hummer H2s and H3s is a synthetic 75W-90 gear oil. This still needs to be replaced at least once every three years if you only do about 20,000km a year in order to remove any condensation in the oil. If you tow a lot or do frequent offroad you need to replace it once a year.

I actually use Amsoil 75W-110 since I do frequent towing and heavy offroad and I replace my oils once a year. Using the Amsoil 75W-90 would get me better mileage but I wanted better gear protection for the abuse I give my truck so that is why I use the 75W-110.

Hope this Helps,

Transfer Case service is recommended every 83,000km under normal conditions but if you tow or off-road you need to replace it once a year.

Transfer Case oil is Dexron III. Do not Use Dexron VI in a Transfer Case!
