So today my hummer h2 started making this horrible sound like something was rubbing. So I crawled underneath and found both rims on passenger side were peeling on the inside on both rims and these pieces were hitting the brake caliper so I peeled a bunch of the pieces off and the noise is now gone. Quite a bit peeled off of both rims. The outside portion of the rims are in average shape with normal pitting and some flaking but nothing like the pieces I pulled from the inside of the rims. I really like the oem rims. Should I be concerned and get the rims replaced? What should I do about the areas where I peeled the metal coating off the inside of the rims.
Thoughts.

Not sure what to do per say, but I had same issues and pulled away a bunch also with the oem rims as well. Basically I did what you did peeled and left it, we ended up getting new rims a year afterwards, but I don't see any issue, besides the "looks"
Road salt is sooooo bad for anything that's any form of metal

There are other uses for Dexron 3 transmission fluid besides putting it in the trans and Tcase. It will help control corrosion and repel water and will eventually dry to the touch sort of. I use it everywhere under the truck. A quart will last you all year as a little goes a long way. Cleans way better than water too,, and you might be able to remove bolts easier when you need to. Only thing is to keep it away from the exhaust/headers and very hot parts as it can burn or smoke if it gets hot enough.
The flaking sounds like a common issue with alloy rims. Paint/ powder never seems to stick long without good Alodine prep. I know they Alodine the H1 bodies but i don't think they do the wheels. Probably because of the yellowish green staining factor. Stuff is also toxic as hell.
