Releasing emergency brake cables to lift body
Hello, struggling a little with the last requirements for lifting the body off the frame. Can you fine gentlemen briefly explain how i can remove the e brake cables where they go through the body crossmember?

no need to remove cables even with a 4" lift. Only the body bolts, the steering shaft clearance, brake line stretching, and fuel line disconnects are needed.
But to remove cables,one clamp, and 2 c clips on the frame. Easier to do this after the body is lifted

Hello Roy, thanks for the info. Actually I am taking the body right off, to get at the Duramax conversion that went wrong (previous owner).
I am thinking I will have issues where the two short emergency brake cables come through the body cross member just to the rear of where they both hook up to the main emergency brake rod.
Thinking I may have to release the rear calipers to give enough slack to release these two emergency brake cables from the 2-1 bracket. thing

Why not just take them off the calipers and leave the body connections? Just at the caliper and a clamp near the a frame. The 2-1 connection is a pain to work with!

I think that is what i will do. Its a long reach up to that connection.

Was able to take advantage of the seasonably warm weather.
Body is free from frame. Ended up removing the calipers, making a small modification to the brake calipers so that I could remove the emergency brake cables.
I kind of like it with a 10" lift..LOL.
Could fit some really big tires.
So tomorrow will be loading the body onto a trailer for media blasting of the roof, inside and out, then prime and seal the roof..
Next up repair firewall..
Current list of goodies required (which I will post to the wanted ads):
Hydrobooster
Master cylinder
Steering column
Steering column support
A-section
Window frame
non heated window
Window seals
12v Wiper motor
Hmmwv dash/gauge cluster
Expansion tank
Air cleaner housing
2 x 10k front axles (possibly)
4 X-doors
10-12k front winch and mount
Drivers and passenger military mirrors, or Alpha style heated (undecided still)
List of goodies pulled to be sold:
Front bush bar
Wagon roof, no glass, needs a little media blast over drivers area, inside and out, it is straight.
Aluminum rocker panel guards
4 Steel doors, decent shape, drivers needs some media blast and new rubber, one of four has glass. All have window regulators, haven't functioned them yet.
Possibly a Duramax engine dependent on the outcome of checking the condition..
Rear barn doors, no glass (possibly, if I do not incorporate them into the AM General ambulance body rear door)
Looking at the state of the duramax I am leaning to a 12V Cummins mated with the existing 5 speed Allison. ( I need to verify if it is 5 speed or 6 speed)
Most likely it will become an offroad only vehicle so the 6th gear is a bit redundant.
I need to get with Eric Ward from Big Dog Offroad- Colorado to check on the adapter plate and TCM device to run the Cummins with an Allison.
If anyone has any history of this combination please advise. If the duramax is out I intend to go as basic, mechanical as possible, diesel and air.

Yes, it doesnt look like much right now, but these vehicles are just too cool to go to the scrap yard.

Ok figured i would update the post. So i rebuilt the top end of the duramax and it runs smooth as silk. Wagon roof sold to a fellow hummer owner to help with his rust issues. m996 ambulance body is on. Currently working on stripping out the unnecesarries. Ordered up a 98 h1 hummer cross body harness and will send a duramax harness to the US to be stripped down to bare minimum. Check out Ken Wolkens at standalone harness.com. Next up, going to pull cooling stack off and install the rad shroud, may hsve to modify some with fiberglass, reposition trans and power steering coolers to an easier to get to/inspect location.
