Cummins 4BT Transplant

Post by DerekCanuck »

Hello, found a decent 1993 HMCS with X doors today.  Previously had a Cummins 4BT swap that is in but not 100% yet.  Very limited room for the front driveshaft, may be possible with a dry sump kit or new motor mounts.

Anyone seen of or heard of pre-fabricated engine mounts from a H1 to Cummins 4 BT?

I think the 4BT will be easier to install than you think! Lots of guys have successfully installed the larger 6BT into their H1s.

While the 4BT is smaller and more compact than the larger 6BT...it is also a way more harsh engine!

There are several companies in the US that should be able to provide you with the needed adapters to complete the project!

Yes, I have found a company called Destoked, also a couple of helpful forums on 4BT sites.   The vehicle has the 4BT installed and bolted up to a GM transmission.  The install is a bit rough.  If I keep it I would certainly want to improve the details of the conversion.

I was able to fire the engine and yes, it is quite a rough sounding tractor engine!

If you need any info on the install, I have the 6BT installed in mine.  3" body lift, you need a 3.5. What adapter kit did they use? Mine has a Ford high torque starter. Engine mounts can easily be fab ed in the truck-- then removed to final weld them properly. I had to modify my hanger bearing mount so the hanger did not rub the oil pan. There is a company in the states that specialize in cummin's in hummer mounts, will see if I can remember later

Just chasing some wiring..looks like we have had a few DIYers inside this thing..

If anyone has  a 1993 fuse block wiring diagram, or even just the schematic showing what fuse does what that would be helpful.

I have a 2002 parts and service manual but I am not sure that it would be the same..

actually good ole google.. found them....
