Dealer consolidation

Post by shotgun-cam »

On driving by 427 and Queensway Recently I discovered that Courtesy Chev (owners of Queensway Saturn Sabb Hummer is now Humberview new cars And the old Queensway Hummer is  Queensway Volkswagon .
This means in Toronto only Roy Foss is left of the original Hummer dealers . May be why in 2 hours 3 H3's showed up for service one California plated other I tagged owner while waiting.

My H1 and H2 were bought new at Dueck in Van. (not by me mind you) They were a big dealer so they may have quite a lot of stuff on the shelves still.

In Edmonton, "Southgate Hummer".... now "Capital GM" (Hummer sign gone) has some parts but are not ordering new stock. I have actually seen a list of all the H1 stock they have. It is a surprisingly short list with about 20% it being wear parts or things you would ever need. They were looking for offers to take it all. So little things that they would have had on hand found boned during service (ie. glow plug controller) are not stocked anymore. Now they order from AM Gen and you wait. I have had them use aftermarket sources for OEM parts too which is always faster to Canada for some reason. This is for the H1.
For the H2 and H3 the parts have been no more than a day away and many were on the shelf. Stuff like transmission lines (H2) I have had to wait for. The H3, so far they have had all the wear parts in stock. Shocks, rotors, Balljoints....etc.
It will likely be many years before H2 and H3 stuff is hard to find.
H1...hmmmmm, not so sure as HPG has more and more things coming up as "discontinued". Some seemingly common stuff too. But brakes/glass and wear parts seem to be in good supply still.

AM Gen is not even trying to answer tech questions any longer. The Tech at Captial got 0 help troubleshooting my wierd ABS issue. Basicaly came down to replacing components till I got the right one. Nice huh. I declined.

H3T specific & H3 V8 parts are becoming increasingly hard to find. Some H3T parts haven't even been stocked by most of the Canadian warehouses either.

Time to start looking for a wrecked truck for parts if I can't sell my Alpha T.

Interesting as the 5.3L engines / tranny stuff in our H3 Alphas should be pretty standard GM stuff except for the "Hummer" bling on them. Maybe transfer case and other beefed up driveline components are becoming extinct though. I will be asking them when it goes in for the next service.

Good point!

That's what I thought too, but things like the water pump, oil pump, p.s steering pump, harnesses and internal parts seem to be all H3/H3T specific to the LH8 engine. All the sensors seem to be standard 5.3 parts though.

Things like the front differential pumpkin assembly are completely discontinued by GM because of low production and high demand, I've heard of several people needing to order every piece individually to replace a blown front differential in recent months. Other things like interior and body replacement parts are also increasingly difficult to find (I waited just over 2 months to get a new headliner)

Wow! I did not realize that. That is not good news. My wife's 10 H3 has 80,000+ k on it now. She drives the hell out of it through 4 seasons and so far we have had to do normal replacements and maintenance but nothing major. I offered to trade it for a new SUV last year and she won't give it up. She loves it. Next year I fear it has to go as it will be just too high mile for my liking. As the 09 H2 went recently with 73,000k so that will bring the household Hummer count down from 3 to 1.

(I am secretly thinking of getting another H1)

It's is a shame the H3s were discontinued as they are good and safe vehicles. (well except for the small blower relay/harness fire thing) haha

We would buy a new one in a second.

Last time when i had my 08 H2 SUT in for service i needed a little clip to hold a molding above the rocker and i was told it was back ordered 6 weeks. Finally got it but i was forewarned to not have an accident, breakage, or anything where i have to replace aesthetics inside or outside as there is no more parts to replace them. Or maybe be lucky on EBay or other site of the sorte. So we have to tread lightly ;)

Check these guys out. I have bought stuff for my H2 there. They answer the phone and are easy to deal with.
I think the dealer was being overdramatic. Expect a sales plea to trade your H2 / H3 in as I went through that BS from the dealer too.
