I remembered when you were enquiring about those a while back, I even went on that site, but forget it now,
Not sure why but I really like how 40s look, and zero mods as well to fit,.
My first tire was a 38.5 swamper bogger , and still seemed a bit small, to me that is,

Looks like the 17" Aluminum wheels sale at BH is over Monk. I dont see them there today. I did check on the 40x13.5x17 Toyo's and there is plenty out west. So there should be more over your way.
These tires have worn well considering they are not being used in the mud as they were intended. Mine have seen some gravel roads but mostly city and highway. They are OK in the winter. Not great but not scary either. Just have to be paying attention as Prius's stop faster than H1's. I have a set of 37" BGR ATs for the winter but I drive so little these last few winters it was not worth the hassle.
Overall I am very happy with these tires and feel they are worth the $$ to install.
The 40s do look better on the H1 I agree. Just like the 37s looked better on my H2...although the handling was noticeably poorer on the 17" rims. The truck handled like a dream on the factory 20x35s but wow were they useless street tires. Not to mention the fact they were on a Hummer!! They went nicely installed with the truck when I sold it.
It's an investment putting wheels on these trucks so I get why you're asking. I realize many guys want to remain original and get that as they have good reasons. I am sure there are better tires than the Toyos for offroad, but for my truck, at this time, (pre-beating the hell out of the new parts and paint) they are my choice.
17" wheels.... Cepec seems to be the way to go for CTIS but they are pricey; especially with the new CTIS parts added. I personally prefer the look of them and they are clearly strong wheels. I have not seen a set of 4 used on the market where I actually got a call or text back.
Good topic Monk... I enjoy re-hashing this subject as there is always an idea or experience to hear about from the gang.

I plan on staying 16.5 rims as long as i can. Still plenty of MT takeoffs for cheap.
I was thinking about buying a container of Chinese MT knockoffs. Minimum order is 10,000 dollars.
Guys in the sand pit are running them and have nothing but good things to say about them.
Apparently they are also round due to the newer molding techniques that were not available
back when our trucks were built.
I am trying to talk the seller into sending me a couple of samples so i can validate them.

I tried some of these on my skid steer about 8 years ago... great price...total garbage tires. I had to replace them in months. Not apples to apples I know but YES get a sample. By what you pals are saying perhaps things have improved.

Re: Tires?
Must be a different tire. This is a brand new molding within the last 3 years,
not the Nanking which are the ones you are referring to that were designed for
the Donfeng Hummer copy. Having said that there is a guy who runs those on his
H1 and has over 40K miles on them. On a skid steer 5-10 miles if you are lucky
if you can even get them to hold air at that load range. Now skid steer tires
on a Hummer would be interesting LOL Clunk clunk clunk.

Re: Tires?
Yes totally different animal.... but it does make me wonder how a "strictly off road" truck would perform with the skid steer tires? Should have great traction and indestructible sidewalls. Hell I don't even remember the size of them so this will remain a fantasy but what a bad ass tire set up that would be. haha

Re: Tires?
I got the first 17 Toyos open country when they came off the line. They lasted just over three years which includes off road. I'm on my second set and I love them. I have them on the XD revolver rims and have no issues. The tires I have now I purchased from Tire23 and was $2200.00 for 4. Once the tires from the truck are worn down I keep them for my M105 trailer which have matching rims. I have decided this year to have a set of tires for off road which are the Pitbull Rocker 42x15x17 which are on steel rims.

Re: Tires?
Wow that's cheap, I think in the near future I'll be looking for a used set of 17" h1 hummer rims (7" back space), then ya stay at a 40"
I remember 4-5 years ago Roy had 42" pitbulls , they looked badass nice
I've never had rubber last 3 years, my worst from new, was 11 months, and best was 2 years that were iroks
