Diif leak or cv

Post by Rocrusher »

Can anyone tell me if the diff output seal can leak and you don't see it till the inner cv comes out. I have gear oil come out when i lowered the cv on pass side. If there is an opening in the end of the cv i geuss it could be grease oil from seperation. I find it hard to beleieve the diff would leak and only stay behund the cv mount.

I'm thinking its your output flange seal,

When you change those it's best to change the flange seal and the blue star washer..

Roy just helped me change mine few months ago, pictures might help as the blue start seal is a easier fix.... But for the extra 15 mins both imo should be replaced if leaking

Older thread, but lol your not alone., those leaks drove me crazy

Correct, the blue seal when worn out leaks thru the nut. Now I put a small amount of sealant on the nut flange when doing this job with a new seal. Added safety

And lol, like Roy said, "a little" sealant, unlike me who "the first time I ever did it". put a soft ball size of silicone all over the nut/flange lol was trying to cover all bases,

And STILL that bugger leaked when I did it,... Man that days I almost went insane as I couldn't believe there was still a leak...

The one thing that needs to be done when you seals things with rtv is clean clean and more clean. I usually clean things 3 time with brake clean before sealing and cant remember the last time something leaked afterwards. Sealed my output flange last night and is now leak free!

Awesome!!

I've watched MOAB videos, and seen some of those USA guys didn't use the blue seal, they just filled the output area " the right stuff sealer" and swear by it,..

That's my bad issue, prep/cleaning I tend to rush on that, and that makes or breaks a job, I 100% believe as well

I new about these washer before but i have never used them. I have done alot of dana 60 axles and always used rtv with no ossues. I keep it in on the h1 as i make it need less rtv. An yes i love the black " right stuff". I use that shit on everything! Lol
