I always said once my motors dies (I'm sure not to far off) , I'd put in a van/hummer 6.5 turbo motor in, BUT DB2 pump.../and mech waste-gate
But again when you see Roy's 6bt, I get all jealous , heheh

Re: 6.5 l Diesel engine problem, valves or bearings?
Hi guys, are you sorry that I joined the club yet?
So today I pulled out the connecting rod so I could look into the cylinder, and found the most bazar thing.... the piston "cap" is still in there completely intact. I was wondering why I couldn't see the valves. I pulled the piston down with a dental pick to get a closer look, and got a suction noise while doing it so the valves must be intact too.
I must have parked the Jeep to close to the Humvee because the front wheel bearing failed. I was getting an abs code for a faulty sensor but when I jacked it up to work on it the wheel went clunk.....
Can't I have anything nice!
Humvee shot and piston!
Jeep trouble now, I had to change my focus to this problem because I need the Jeep to get to site....
Because the Grand Cherokee just gets stuck in the mud...and that's not fun.

Having a thought here. Since I can put the new motor in the rebuild, I have a running motor up for bid coming out of the humvee.

Re: 6.5 l Diesel engine problem, valves or bearings?
Thanks Roy, if you could let me know what you want for it I could analyze my options. From day one I wanted to keep my truck military standard. Found a doner van with 2002 6.5 for $1200 but I'm not sure I want to go that way. I've had estimates of $5500 to rebuild my own engine, and I'm kind of leaning towards that.Having a thought here. Since I can put the new motor in the rebuild, I have a running motor up for bid coming out of the humvee.
I still need to figure out if I want to pull the engine in the driveway, or tow it to my buddies place which is still outdoors but it would be flat and he's got the hoist there...
At least the Jeep is back on the road now, I just had the front brakes done and I cannot believe they didn't notice the bearing was bad. It clunked when I jacked it up.
Do you all have this manual, it is pretty well laid out.

Re: 6.5 l Diesel engine problem, valves or bearings?
I was working on the Jeep again today. Need to keep that running so I can get to work. I haven't done much on the truck since I pulled the crank out. Trying to save up for whatever I need to do to get her fixed up. It will probably be a few weeks before I pull the engine since I have a bunch of family commitments the next couple weekends.

I've only had the two door jeeps 85cj, and a yj , but The YJ I forget the year I had on that now, , but I'd probably of enjoys more if I had the 4 door, like you have.

Re: 6.5 l Diesel engine problem, valves or bearings?
I discovered a few things while working on the Humvee today, first of all found a loose caliber bolt on the side I didn't have apart.
Secondly I discovered that although you may need a body lift to install a Cummins, there is plenty of room for a Cat.
