Power window, free fix

Post by Monk »

Ok,

My window (passenger side) recently started to stop and click at the bottom, needing help to get up

I took my motor off and it was perfect working order,/same with gear

But I did notice my regulator drive cable was a bit worn at the bottom of new,...so for laughs and kicks,

I removed my regulator, that drive coil inside the regulator , the top has a plastic end that screws onto the coil drive rod....

Lol, I spun that plastic end off the top of the drive cable (little help from my propane torch)

And put it on the opposite side/bottom

Now, heheh will see how long she lasts, as the worn out part of th coil is now hidden under the plastic,,,,,

And wow, works now perfect,

This is I case anyon bord and has a sticky window ONLY due to a worn worm cable gear drive...

I have heard but have not confirmed that power window regulators from the 85 Jeep Cheerokee, not grand cherokee are a direct match.. Also that channel/ slotted piece that the window glass sits in is from a volkswagon jetta... FYI

The part that worked for me was from a 96 jeep cherokee for me was only the inner cable drive, the regulator housing was different,.,,

And also the motor perfect , that came with it,,,,

But WAY cheaper then factory,,,,, that's when I did my drivers door,...if anyone has pics of 85 that would be cool....a new regulator house would be sweet..,

Always good finding parts to cross ref,

There are a bunch of old jeeps in the junk yard here, if I get some time I will try sizing things up. Yes it would be great to find alternatives.
