I have looked around Tony, Canadian tire (119,149)and the source(79),they seem to have a 4-15 mile range. need also antenna another 50. I will be checking some more yet. Nice list of needed tools for the run!

Tony, I noticed in Weir, your truck had better uphill power than mine, did you do any predator updates or any other??

I was thinking of the pmd update ( phantom codes)and computer update(for power and fuel) ,  Computer with exhaust as they say should increase 10-20% fuel economy. I may be able to hit 20 mpg this way.

If you want a good selection, and plenty of good advice, try Radio World, Steeles near Hwy. 400.

Found a CB shop here in Brampton / Mississauga

Queensway CB, on the corner of Dixie Road and Derry Road, south west corner in the plaza, it was closed today but I will be going back on Tuesday, need a radio for the trip to Indiana.

What is a Mid range Radio, and any idea where is a good spot to install in a H2? any ideas or anyone have a CB already installed in their H2?

I want to installed a 4ft antenna on the back bumper...any ideas??

Send a private message for advice to Dave (dbot). He is a radio expert.

From what I know, and that isn't much, a 4' antenna on the rear is pretty dismal. The antenna works best with a big ground plane so I use a magnetic mount 4' antenna in the middle of my roof. I never had a problem off-roading; my antenna is a thin stainless steel one that is flexible. But it won't go in my garage. You may want to consider a portable CB, as I use, that just plugs into the lighter socket, and the antenna cable plugs into it too. You probably won't be using it often. I just keep mine in the truck and hook it up when needed. See a picture of mine below.

The first thing to consider when picking out an antenna is where to install it on the vehicle.  Normally the main concern with this is appearance.  That is more of a matter of personal opinion.  As for performance, what matters is the ground plane.  The ground plane is the flat, metal surface needed to reflect your antenna's signal out.  Essentially, the antenna transmits the signal downward, it strikes the ground plane, and is reflected out.  The bigger your ground plane is, the better.  Consequentially, the best place for your antenna is the center of the roof of your vehicle, IF it is metal and there is no sun roof.  Some newer vehicles have fiberglass bodies that will not reflect the signal as metal would.  The front or back fenders will give you good results as well.  You must remember, though, that the signal will be weaker in the direction with no ground plane.  For instance, if you mount your antenna on the front drivers side fender, you will have a weaker signal to the front-left of the vehicle.

This looks similar to the one I am interested in and I have seen several H2 CB radio installs that allow quick connect/disconnect under the dash with all features on the Handheld. For the antenna the run the wire up the A-pillar and then out to the roof from under the top left corner marker light. Of the ones that I have seen, they are all very clean installs!
