The joys of neglecting one little maintenance item

So, my wife and I go to Kelsey's in Ancaster and truck runs good.

We finish our dinner and at 9

I turn the key and it runs for literally one second and stalls and it's never done that before

So after a few feeble attempts to start it and cranking it over it just did not want to start

I noticed my tank that it was on was empty so I think I ran out of gas and maybe it picked up the sludge on the emptied tank?

So I switch tanks to my full one and started turning it over again.


Luckily there was brand new batteries on it and I literally on and off try to crank it for probably 30 to 45 minutes and it didn't even drain the batteries I was super impressed.


So I gave up and had to call a tow truck one Joker wantes 200 bucks for a quick 15-minute ride then another one I called Tip Top Towing.

Quoted me 95 bucks so he comes by picks up my truck brings it home.

And backs it into my driveway this guy was super cool.

So he ends up charging me only 65 bucks but I still gave him 80 just because.


I ended up texting royy at night, first thing he says it could be a fuel issue so check your fuel filter so today I just bought one and I just replaced it just now the truck just fired up I drove it around the block it's perfect now.

So my old filter was probably two and a half years old moral of the story is keep up on your maintenance stuff.

And lol it fired up even on the battery without charging it hahaha God I love new batteries

Should open up the filter to see how much dirt was collected.Just a reminder to an eye on the gauges

Does the H1 have the same fuel filter drain valve on the driver side fender? It would be a quick way to see if you are getting any pressure from your lift pump. I actually just had to thaw mine out since the cold weather had frozen water which built up in the line when I had everything apart.


Now, when you say tow, did you get towed on dollies, or on a flatbed? I have always been afraid to use anything other than a flatbed with the Humvee and they charge $100 just to load.

Well, lol under normal conditions yes it does have the valve on the driver side fender.

As for me, I opened it about 2 years ago but it was seized so it broke and I just left it.


You are correct it's best to tow it on a flatbed yes I would say a hundred bucks is about the going rate so when he said 95 I thought that wasn't too bad


This is now going to push me to get a CAA card though soon , heheh

I honestly have not needed a flatbed since I was about 25 and back then the rate was 65 bucks to load so I guess nowadays I'm just not used to the price changes ,


This is the first time she has let me down and it's all due to me though...

In my head I knew it always had to change it but just never got around to it and as the years go by that's what happens

Funny thing you mentioned that about the filter I stuck it in front of the bright sun to look up and seen absolutely zero light coming threw, and I was actually going to cut it open sometime and just take a boo inside.

I thought if it plugged up it would have been acting a little bit different but it ran normal and then all the sudden she would not start.


I've now started it a good 15 times in different areas and she's always started perfect know every single time.

Also I noticed when I turned the little knob on top of the fuel filter a little gasp of air came out as well

Yup it’s easy to forget that one. And dealerships have to to be told most of the time to check/change it during servicing.

My drain valve under the fender has been seized since day one. Really no chance of it not seizing due to where it is located. Direct line of fire from all wheel spray.


To be honest Monk... I don’t think mines been changed for a couple years. Of course the truck has sat in the garage for 575 of the last 600 days. Haha

Your correct, I swear that area has to be the worst for a drain life, I should change mine so I can bleed water, if it ever needs it....
