HUMMER H3 Alpha for canada

Post by victan »

Dear All,

I am a very happy owner of a Hummer H3 Alpha that I bought new in 02/2008 at a Hummer dealer in cancun (Mexico).

It happens that we are moving to Canada and was planning to move this superb car with me, assuming that being manufactured in the USA (where all Hummers are produced as you do know), I will not face any problems to do so.

But, after talking with the authorities and GM Canada, they said it does not required the US security features, but were not able to explain why and what were if any the differences.

I am more than afraid that they are triing to protect their own domestic market (GM canada), that anything else, which if it is the case is not acceptable, particularly due to all the financial problems they are facing, it is not the right way to improve the company image.

I am really dissapointed and do not know what to do, and would appreciate any help from yours.

Hoping to hear from you soon, I remain

Yours faithfully

I seriously doubt any restrictions on you importing your personal vehicle have anything to do with GM trying to "protect their own domestic market".

Used modern vehicles are imported all the time as people move their homes to another country. Of course, the vehicle needs to meet the safety and emissions standards of the country.

The people at GM Canada or the 'authorities' you mentioned should have told you what the specifics were.

If it is something like Daylight Running Lights it is an easy fix.

Thank you for your quick answer, but as said in my previous post nobody specified what are the differences between a Hummer sold within the US and the same exported to Mexico.

Besides, the car has the sticker that specifies : [glow=red,2,300]VEHICULE EMISSION CONTROL (GM) : no adjustment needed, [/glow]

and, [glow=red,2,300]this vehicule conforms to US EPA regulations applicable to new light duty trucks[/glow]

Concerning Daylight running, the light start and stay on while turning the ignition.

Do you who or which department within Canada I should contact to get the right infos to import my Hummer.

Thank you.

Check this out...

I don't think you will have to much trouble getting your Hummer into Canada.  My Hummer was imported from the States before I bought it.  You will have to jump through a few hoops and get a few forms filled out, but I don't think it is anything major...not to mention the safety inspection.

If you are importing a vehicle into Canada, you must go through the Registrar of Imported Vehicles.  They have a complete list of requirements and of specifications and changes necessary for importation.  You can try the link below, but I think it is the one for importing a US vehicle into Canada.  The RIV site will also give you information on International Importation.

Hope that this helps.  I have imported 2 Hummers myself from the US, so I might be able to help somewhat with your importation.
