recovery straps

He guys,



I'm wondering your thoughts on helping people out of ditches/snow since winter is here. What would you recommend? I've though about using recovery straps with shackles. How would you hook them up to the rear bumper bumper tie downs?



I've also post on the hummer network and found many USA guys seem to have a liability issue or worried that the victims will sue you if you wreck their vehicles. Is it me or just that us Canadians don't sue someone that helps you out?  <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' />

I have pulled out tons of stuck folks; a friend of mine and I would go out in storms and head north on the back roads.



I never hook up the vehicle myself; I tell the owner/driver that he/she has to do it, and is responsible for any damage. I use a shorter than normal  strap with a choke chain on one end, so the strap never touches the vehicle.



  We need a lawyer member to address liabilities, I suppose.

I never worried about it.

  Would do the same tomorrow (pull out a stuck vehicle).



I would not attempt a job that needs a tow truck.



On a recent hunting trip, my buddy turned his truck over.

I did not attempt to get him out, as I did not have the training.

Considering some of our snowfalls I would feel bad not to help others out. We have a vehicle that is a great "tool" fro these situations. You also make a good point about being trained of vehicle recovery!!

With all the people I've pulled out, I would tell them that I am NOT a tow truck and DO NOT accept any responsiblity. Then ask them again if they want to be pulled. 100% of the time I'm pulling them out.

That's the same that I normally do, also I only pull someone out of a snowbank not a ditch since the side of the road is not the safest place to be, my safety comes first. The only time I do 'Off-Road' recovery is when I am 'Off-Road'  <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' />

In Milton there seems to be more cars in ditches since the shoulders are very narrow in areas so people get hung up easily. I stopped once to help out and the truck was on a 45 degree angle with the snow up to the passenger window! <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' /> After getting out I pulled out the other car. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I have been helping lately... with my new winch can't wait to do more.. Markus and i will hit the roads as soon as out HOPE stickrs and gear come in to assist the GTA people during storms!
