Mud Season is Almost Here!!! Are you Ready????

Post by whitehumh2 »

Hey All,

The snow is melting and the ground is thawing, so that means that the mud will be ready soon! But are you ready to play!?!?! Now would be a good time to start checking everything on your Hummers before you head out for the first time this season! If you haven't purchased recovery gear yet...Now is the time!

Remember at the very least you should have the following, a good yanker-strap http://www.masterpull.com/item.cfm?itemid=39018 , this is the one I carry.

Several recovery straps of different lengths and size. A highlift jack with soft soil plate.

The Above would be basic needs!

To truly be prepared you NEED a winch(es), Mud Tires, Lockers, Skidplates, Snorkel, etc. etc. etc.

Remember if you are not prepared a simple trail can become hell and a simple recovery a nightmare without the right equipment, So go ahead a stimulate the economy...Buy Hummer Off-Road Parts....You won't regret it!!! <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' />

Hey JC,

For the length no less than 20feet and no more than 30feet. Anything less than 20feet is too short to be safe when pulling and anything longer than 30feet leaves too much slack.

For weight rating no less than 18,000lbs and the higher the weight rating the better. Like I said mine is rated at 52300lbs! That way I know I can really give it without having to worry about a strap breaking.

Also never use a strap that has a hook already attached either directly or with a piece of chain. These are not safe for recovery operations, and can become projectiles! You should only ever be using clevis hooks. And again the bigger the better, Mine are rated at 8tons of working load that is 16000lbs and have a breaking strength close to 5 times that!

Remember bigger is better and safer!

Having one strap is better than none but having two is the minimum I would ever recommend. Three or more is the wisest choice! I carry 4 all different sizes and lengths depending on the type of pull. Also you should have a 6foot long tree-saver.

Hope this helps!

Hey JC, that is about right for the Toyo Open Country M/T in a 37x13.50R17, when I got mine in sept. 2006 I paid $385 per tire, so given the way the economy is going with everything getting more expensive that is about right for the price. The whole total I paid for the tires was $1814.08 that is tax, installation and balancing! But on the bright side the tires are Amazing and ride smooth and quiet.

Glad you enjoyed the DVDs! Are you looking forward to the section with the deep water??? Which trail are you most looking forward to doing???

BTW, you can also try http://www.1010tires.com/ but they have to be shipped and then installed and balanced. Also I have called national4wd to see what they can do, maybe tyr PJF 4x4 also.

Later,

Kev
