Just so that you know, when you bring it across the border, the US Customs MUST have a copy of the ownership (called a title in the states) sent directly to the land border crossing that you are going to import over.  A word to the wise is to have the title faxed to the land border crossing US Customs office and then, immediately get a printout of the fax confirmation sheet indicating the fax was received with the impirnted date and time.  I have imported two Hummers and both times the US Customs office "lost" the fax.  If I didn't have the fax confirmation sheet, the Hummer would have had to have stayed at the US Customs yard for the manditory 72 hours and I would have had to come back to pick it up!!!!

Does anyone know if this tax applies to imported H1's ?

You will have to pay additional excise taxes (Green Levy) only if your vehicle has a weighted average fuel consumption rating of 13 or more litres per 100 kilometres and is put into service after March 19, 2007. The Green Levy applies to automobiles (including station wagons, vans and sports utility vehicles) designed primarily for use as passenger vehicles, but not including pickup trucks, vans equipped to accommodate 10 or more passengers, ambulances and hearses.

Does anyone know if a vehicule GIVEN to me from a family member (brother live in the US ) would be exempt from taxes as it is here in Quebec?

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.I'll pay you back in the trails some day.

You would have to ask the Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) about a "gifted" vehicle to determine exemption.  As it is the Federal Government, it really doesn't matter where you live in Canada about the Green Levy; however, you don't pay it unless your vehicle is 2007 or newer.  It applies to ALL vehicles including H1's.  You may be exempt if your H1 was converted to run on Bio-Diesel.

I just recognized the original soft top rebuild you were looking at. It was originally a hard top wagon that had a second fuel tank installed which caused a fire gutting it out hence the rebuild as a soft top after it was written off.

You could be right, but the owner of the one I was looking at said it was in a minor accident with dammage done to the windsheild from head contact. It was, according to him, scrapped because of a large insurance payout..................................................he also said the owner was a seventy year old nun  <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />
