My comment back was simple but truthful I said to him " you say you spent 60,000 on yours I spent 800 but here we are looking at the same lake and I would like to point out to you I never had to be pulled out unlike yourself!!!" there are haters in all groups of other groups. All I am saying there is some places my Jeep can go that my Hummer can't go and there are some spots my Hummer can go that the Jeep can't go. To sum it up I will go out on the trails with everybody we all try to do our best and most importantly Have Fun and see what we can do in our rigs. I Love my HUMMER ever since Derek took me out there is no looking back now I will always own a HUMMER and I will always own a JEEP!!! Hell I am even looking at an old Chevy Blazer now for my kids!!! Remember IT'S NOT ABOUT THE RIDE IT'S ABOUT GETTING THERE I am not trying to step on anyone's toes here just trying to get on the trails with as many as we can unite. This is how in the end we will save what little trails are left!!!!



One last note I looked at that video jeep vs Hummer total BS it is a Jeep lover trying to make us look bad I have been on the trail many times with the jeep broke down and stuck on the trail!!! Its all part of the off road experience.

WELL PUT BROTHER

An odd title for this thread. There is nothing "elite" about owning a Hummer today. When there was only the "Hummer" and a wagon cost CAN$150k from the local Peterbilt dealership then I guess you could call Hummer owners "elite" only because they had bags of cash and had a relatively rare truck. Anyone with a half decent job can afford to buy a Hummer these days. I guess H owners are still relatively elite - only because Hs are still relatively rare - but H2s and H3s are all over the place.



The whole Hummer-hater thing was blown out of proportion by the bad timing of the H2 introduction with an active, international green movement that needed something to be a poster-boy of all things wrong with American excess. Almost exclusively, my anti-Hummer experiences have been with well-intentioned, new-agers that pay lots of money for organic food and have no real understanding of basic science or how the world works. I always handle them and their comments very carefully and politely.



About a month ago (before my motor broke - #eight) I was returning to my truck in a parking lot. Three adults were walking in front of me towards the car parked next to my truck. As they got closer the man in the group started making the typical derogatory remarks about my gas guzzling, small dick-owned, ugly box, monster. One interesting comment was about my "stupid, huge" tires. Well, I pull out my keys and click the fob and they look around embarrased. Then one lady points at their car's front right tire and it's almost flat. Guy starts swearing as he has no spare. I politely ask if I can help, and comment that my stupid, huge tires can be inflated/deflated at will and that I have an air line on board. So I pumped up his flat tire (slow leak, no obvious puncture) and politely wave goodbye. I think every little bit helps.

Before GM got involved there was something called the Hummer Curse. Not many people has ever seen an Hummer [H1] before, and everywhere you go, people will come by and gawk at it, ask questions while you are trying to fill up and get on your way. Now a days you are more likely to get a finger than a question <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />



Post GM deal, it became, like it or not, a symbol of excess and people buying more than what they need. That may not be the reality but it's a perception out there. More trucks were made with the brand for the mass market. It moved from an oddball, niche vehicle to a mass produced brand that didn't push forward the best image in terms of marketing. Instead of promoting a fun outdoor, off road vehicle, they promoted big, large full time 4x4 trucks as urban people movers. They didn't adjust the advertising that much until it was too late [the H3T ads hit the nail on the end and were done perfect IMO].



So now we got a brand associated with rich douche bags and bored housewife's taking their kids to soccer/hockey practice. Like it or not that's what we are stuck with.



Honestly I find the anti-hummer hostility is dieing down, the brand is gone, and the people who purchased it just to be "seen" in one have moved into other cars or sold their hummers. The die hards and enthusiasts will keep our trucks going and it is a future classic so in the long run I wouldn't worry about it long term.



However it's not just Hummers, any high end, very visible car owner, you'll have issues. You can go over to Ferrari Chat and read about how F-car owners take crap from environmental types, and have coffee, ice cream dumped on their cars or their cars keyed.



The reality is the Hummer gets no worse mileage than an equivalent truck or suv in it's weight class. My H1 gets the same mileage as my old jeep [12-14 mpg]. The H1 is essentially, in terms of environmental impact, no different than a 90's GMC van or pickup, as the H2/h3 is relatively similar to suv's in it's weight class.



You can bring this up to any vocal opposition, but I find the most vocal anti-hummer folks crumple if you try to back them up with facts, they aren't car people. Most people aren't car people, they just buy a transportation appliance every 2-3 years that takes them from point A to point B and that's it. They can't comprehend why someone would ever buy something like a Hummer or a Mustang or a Ferrari, etc. They have high ownership costs, expensive to operate and maintain and some people don't want to bother with that.



That's fine. If someone wants to drive around in a Smart FourTwo, thats great, i'm still going to daily drive my H1. Enjoy your vehicle and don't worry so muc what other people think.
