Excellent advise Kurt

Since I got my 96, I have had a lot of little things to repair, been working through them, still have HVAC, CTIS, and power door locks not working, also have an issue with AUX gas tank, seems I am getting some air in the mixture when running on that tank. Also have rear passenger window giving me a hardtime and all switches have been replaced..

But I did change a ton since I picked it up..my daily commute is round trip about 44 kms, I used to use my H2 for it but it sucked gas, I have looked around for biodiesel but I can not seem to find any in the Toronto area, maybe someone can point me in the right direction. How do you find your truck runs on biodiesel? you get better MPG?

The real big pain in my butt is the sound, I am used to a quiet ride, I want to sound proof my truck a bit, read lots of articles on it but need to see what suggestions are best and the quick and first to attempt..

thanks for any and all advise..

Mileage is about the same with biodiesel, actually it's slightly less [Bio-diesel has less energy potential than Petro-diesel] but with the case of our trucks it's almost the same [it's like half a mpg or so]. The upshot to biodiesel is it can be considered carbon neutral, plus it has excellent lubrication properties for injection pumps and injectors, even with B5 [5% biodiesel] or B1 [1% biodiesel].

The downsides is it can gel in cold weather, and it will wear on rubber seals and fuel lines, in which case you need to replace them with a synthetic material like vitron or anything that's rated SAE 30R9 for biofuels. Most vehicles recently built since the late 90's already have these in place, but I'm not 100% sure with H1's. In either case running a mix is best like B20/B50.

That's the good thing with biodiesel, if you run out, you can just mix and match and fill up with regular diesel. I'm not sure about Toronto, but I imagine that a few farmers co-ops out in the country may sell it for tractors.

As for sound proofing , the best thing I heard of using is dyna matt, especially around the shifter area and around the engine cover under the doghouse. It's expensive to buy and you'll speed a good deal of time stripping out the interior to install it. I think a wagon owner did a you tube video of a time lapse installation.

I was thinking of doing it myself but with the soft top there's only so much I can gain.

There' also a Hummer-coat product from AM General. It's a sound absorbing undercoat spray product that coats the body tub underneath everything. It's factory standard on later model 200x series trucks.

AM General part numbers:

5745755 HUMMER COAT-QUART CAN $45

5745757 SPRAY GUN-HUMMER COAT A $40

5745756 HUMMER COAT-ONE CASE/12 $480

That stuff may work good for under the wheel wells. If you drop your rocker panel protection and spray it there on the bottom of the body tub it should help. You won't be able to do a complete spray like what's done at the factory since you'd have to pull the body from the frame and remove anything that's stuck onto the tub, like the drive line tunnel reflective insulation, shift linkage , a few harnesses and any brackets for exhaust.

Best bet is to dynamat the interior, and use hummer-coat on wheel wells on the rear of the wagon and on the rocker panels and the front of the rockers behind the front wheels.

Don't use any of the spray on sound deadeners on the interior, it'll smell like asphalt in the summer.

going to try some of those ideas....
