I could see if it was on vehicle that blended in with the crowd,or make a fast get away, but to make a big deal about on an H1 is just stupid. I think there are probably worse things out there to be spending time on other than a front plate on a H1, that could probably be located without knowing the plate number.

My license plate is attached to the brush bar, on the drivers side just below the signal light. Easily visible, but not blocking anything I need; winch, air flow, lights, etc.
The cop at the swift said that it had to be attached to the bumper, but mine definately isn't and he didn't give me a ticket or warning for it.
Roy, my guess would be that on the roof rack is considered too high to look; typically they are mounted somewhere below the windshield. Also, it being between two lights and set back behind them might block the plates view from an angle or if the lights were on. I know those light would never be on when on the highway, but when those H1's make those high speed getaways it could be a problem

.
Unfortunetly, the cop at the swift had a hidden agenda and just wanted to detain us for as long as he could. I'm sure if he hadn't handed out those two tickets, he would have kept looking till he found something wrong.

The officer stated that the licence plate had to be firmly attached to the front bumper of the vehicle to be considered legal...we asked about placing it in the front windshield and he said NO. I'll keep you informed of my findings....

I have a friend that keeps the license plate for his RAM pickup in the front window, and he has never had trouble with it (he has done so for 5+ years). It could be that the PD up there is a little bored (I can't imagine a lot of activity up in cottage country), or someone next to the offroad trail complained, and the PD decided to pull a bunch over on technicalities (a similar thing happened at Botland this spring, albeit with no tickets).
It seems that every one of the trails in the GTA and Golden Horseshoe is having trouble now.

Man that burns me .... we all work hard all week to be able to go out and have some fun with our rides and we get harrassed by the PD. I can see if we were destroying property or being very loud near someone's home, but we were 27 km back in the bush....

How many times have we all heard the opp crying and whineing on the news that they don't have the resorces to do thier job's right and how they NEED MORE more men and women ,more equipment, more laws more jails etc etc etc. it goes on and on ,but here we are some law abiding people out on the week end after a hard work week doing a perfectly legal activity and being safe to boot, and the O.P.P have the resorces to put a man 27 km's back in the bush to harass and intimidate us.Man the next time you hear them complaining that they don't have the resorces tell them our story and tell them to stop bullshiting the public every time they open thier mouths.I may be harsh ,but i'm pissed it took me over a year to get a meth lab shut down and that only after the guy died from his own product even though i had the proof that he was running a meth lab the opp said that WHAT? ya you guessed it " they don't have the resorces to follow up on my information" that's what i was told. How can they have the manpower to give some in our group tickets but not a meth lab? Now that my rant is over i hope that j and p fight the tickets in court and win. the Bear
