Hello To All

I have a 2004 H1 Wagon and I do a lot of highway driving. (WINNIPEG / Vancouver Island ) The problem I experience is heating up going thru the mountains . The heating up problem is easily avoided by picking up speed on the down hill portion and maintaing speed up hill. This unit is a diesel and although I can live with the comsumption it would be nice to improve. So I do a lot of highway driving or slow driving on Vancouver Island. (up island) exploring high mountain abandoned logging roads.

Any mods I can do to improve the beast ?

Im not to sure about combating your cooling issues, but the Hummer guages are notorious for being inaccurate. Before anything else, Id look into getting a scanguage II for your truck that can give you accurate temperature readings, amongst a plethora of other readings. I believe there was a member on here who could get great pricing on them, a search should render you some results.

What color is your H1? I live in Wpg, and am always interested in meeting other/new H1 owners. Ive got the black '01 wagon from my avatar!

Hi Bob,

I did a trip this year from Winnipeg to Halkirk Alberta for a jousting tournament I was in and was towing a horse trailer there and back. I had temp issues as soon as I got to the hills. It sucked big time but coming back, i traveled muuuuuch later (10pm - 5am) when it was a lot colder out and that was enough to keep me good for temps.

If you have to do the hills, temp is gunna be an issue for sure, especially if you are towing. Having said that.. I've been looking into some solutions and I have been told that it might be worth a big tranny cooler but I can't find anyone that has done it to get the value assessment from it. If I find out or do it myself, I'll let you know.

BTW... my temps: Normal day to day 198deg on the trip i tried to keep it under 220deg and actually pulled over a few times to let the engine cool down (fan cools it fast when it's sitting idling). It did slip a bit over 220 once but came back on its own pretty quick.

Good luck,

Shawn
