I have bad news.... Lions Back is closed and has been for a few years. Lions Back isn't difficult but it sure puts a shark fin in your drivers seat! MAJOR PUCKER FACTOR.
Once at the top you need to make a u-turn and come down exactly how you came up. The u-turn is harrowing. If you can do a 3 point turn up top you've passed a major test of manlihood. Hell, even getting out of your truck up top is harrowing. It takes a lot of balls.
I've had the good fortune of doing Lions Back several times and it saddens me greatly that it's closed for us.
Another reason to get to Moab sooner rather than later is that the BLM is trying to reduce and close as many trails as they think they can get away with.
Having said that, Lions Back is closed because someone (a land developer) purchased the land that accesses the bottom of it. Lions Back is actually on public lands but you can't access it without crossing private land - literally only about 100'. Previous owners charged you $10 to cross their land - I was more than happy to pay it.
One more thing, in Moab parlance, Lions Back is a 'fin'. It's located very near the trail head for the Hells Revenge Trail.
Man I'm missing Moab!

From Alberta it looks like we have:
Robert and Myrium in their H1
Dave in his H1
Another Dave in his H1
Myself, Greg, in my H1
I think Gaza is considering it (Please do! Robert, Dave and Dave area all from Edmonton), we could sure use an H2 and an H3.
For us it's a 2 day drive, one long day (especially for the Edmonton guys), then one shorter day. The event starts in Durango (which is incredible) which is a little closer than Moab for the Eastern guys and a little farther for us Alberta dudes.

I can hardly wait........
I normally go twice a year but I didn't go at all last year. They were closing our local race track and I wanted to spend as much time there as I could - 2 or 3 times a week. This meant no Moab.
This is the longest stretch that I haven't gone in more than a decade - and I'm super eager.
The great news is that it looks like team Canada will be strong in numbers - YAY!
