The only thing i did was cut the xm input and output wire from the radio connector and connected the aux. jack that i made (as per instructions) in series. This way, i can listen to xm then if i want to listen to any external audio, i just plugged in the 3.5mm audio cable and it will automatically interrupt the xm.
 
You can buy this guy kit (no affiliation whatsoever) for easy install but i went on the cheap route. Works ok so far.
