All new common rail diesels have a cold start protocol that will not allow any throttle input until above a certain temperature. Even our H2s have that but they warm up a tad faster and the protocol is not as restrictive as the emission controls on the new diesels!

And no, winter close out grills do not help cold starts!

I'm not too concerned about cold starts as its plugged in...I wanted to know if it helps with getting "adequate" heat (while driving) in the cabin when it's cold Outside. It was -36 last night with windchill!

Just tried it...Covered up both front and hood stack partially with carboard leaving about 6 inches exposed on either sides. ..I must admit it did keep the engine running between 180-200 range and the heat was quite adequate inside the cabin.

Well worth the try!

My truck was originally from Winnipeg. Came with a winter cover which I assume is OEM. Fits great. See pics below. I recently had a local tack shop (Horse saddle guy) fix a couple of the clips on it. He said he could make these from scratch. If anyone is interested I could ask him about cost - he could use mine as a template. PM me if interested.

I figured I'd try the Cardboard method today to see, basically I cut two pieces for the top to slides under the top grill , and it rests on top of that mesh screen,

I'll do some test ridding , lol if it passes I might have to paint the cardboard , yup allllllll about quality here , hahahnaha

My front has the Same grill with mesh under also , so might slip some cardboard ,

My heat just ok, but from reading what POlarBear said figured see what extra diff it might make, as Sonny said helped, so was curious ...
