Have you gone to see it yet?

I'm thankfully that it just missed us! Litterally as I was in the backyard watching the lighting and then the light hail started, but I could hear the occasional "crash" on the houses behind us! Thats how close it was!

I'll have to watch the news tonight!

I was watching the lightning in every direction, yet somehow did not even get a single drop of rain at my place!

Anybody interested in doing a crazy northern expedition?

I’ve always wanted to get that amazing view of the Northern lights you always see in photos… but that involves going North. I have found a place that has heated outdoor seating and apparently is one of the top 5 places in the entire world to view the phenomenon.

The real challenge here is despite being directly North or us, it is a 25 hour drive each way. That and the Aurora’s are also best viewed in the late fall and winter months; so 4 days of driving compounded by the fact we would likely be at risk of hitting some harsh weather.

The reward of course is getting to see something in vivid detail a lot of people never will; besides, the sweet is never as sweet without the bitter <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I'm in! I love playing in the snow and driving through blizzards. (no sarcasm #honestly!)

But they have heated benches Dave! And hotels too... with hot tubs! <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ght_on.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':right_on:' />

Weather up there stabilizes starting around Mid November until about April, so it should be doable somewhere in that range.

Good to have some big off-road lights and yellow fogs though, the KC's on the front of my truck are 130watt and they are hot enough it melts the snow and ice so they are the only things still shinning when I've hit blizzards in the past.

I really want to do it, it is one of those bucket list items I'd like to check off. It is taking considerable work to convince the wife, but I think she is on board.

For safety reasons, we should have at least a couple of trucks at the bare minimum in case we have a break down along the way.

Basically it is 4 days of travel, and we should plan on 2 day stay. Statistically it looks like about a 75% chance every night, so 2 days will put us into the high 90% chance of seeing wicked norther lights.

I would bring my CRV for the same reason, but I think the roads are bad enough from frost heave it would shake the poor thing apart.
