Concerning Ontario liscence plate
Ontario Highway Traffic Act
Section 13 (2) of the Act reads as follows: Every number plate shall be kept free from dirt and obstruction andshall be affixed so that the entire number plate, including the numbers,is plainly visible at all times, and the view of the number plate shall not be obscured or obstructed by spare tires, bumper bars, any part ofthe vehicle, any attachments to the vehicle or the load carried. 1994,c. 27, s. 138 (7).
We recommend that rear number plates be attached so that their face is parallel to the tailgate and perpendicular to the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle and so that the numbers/letters may be readhorizontally left to right, when viewed from the rear. In other words, plates should be mounted as they are commonly seen on motor vehicles.
This is directly from Ontario Ministry of transport
If OPP have any other regulations I could not find it
hope that it helps .....

Duncapa, has this issue resolved in court yet?
If not I strongly suggest that you print both section of the OHTA and get as well written copy of what the ministry of transportation told me over the phone. It is not to the officer to interpret at will the Act, He can only suggest a logical opinion without inforcing it. AS for the plate in windshield that was a No, No as it interfere with the vision of the driver and there is a section on that. AS for on the roof rack between 4 lights, that can be tricky, when the light are on it can prevent from seing the plate, and it clearly say " plainly visible at all time"
I still have to see in Quebec a QPP stoping a vehicule because its rear plate is covered in mud, behind a tube bumper, in the rear window, or anywhere else for that mather. Unless you cant really see it anywhere from the back. You may see a few over zelous municipal police do it depending of the region. Other than that never seen it happen.
Wish you luck is it hasnt gone through yet.

Okay asked Toronto Police word from them is the plates should be on the centre line unless unable due to trailer hitches or winches and on bumper unless unreasonable IE a lift gate or rear spare on H3's( mention repeated loss of plates) . In any case the plate must be unobstructed from view this means foreward of lights if on bars .Ok Good Luck.
