The other real possibility is to catch the guys by setting them up. Call it a community effort by Hummer owners for Hummer owners. You can't expect the police and insurance companies to cover your ass on this stuff. Your just another number and you stand in line like sheep every time while these abuses take place daily and all we end up doing is reacting. I am a big believer in being proactive and as a group we could shut down these folks if we wanted to. OK, got a very detailed reply from Mastergard one of the insurance recognized vehicle immobilizer systems. Details below.

Greetings Brian,

Thank you for your interest in the Mastergard security product line.

Without a doubt certain GM vehicles are very much at risk from theft and the requirement to self protect becomes a the only way to immobilize these vehicles.

To address your questions I will answer them one at a time.

1. Pricing?

The Mastergard product is a part of a product line that in recognized by Transport Canada as well as the IBC (Insurance Bureau of Canada) as you already know. This is only possible because Mastergard has met or exceeded the engineering requirements to be safe and effective in the vehicles they are fitted to. Not all products have been able to receive this approval and therefore it is highly recommended. The second part of the pricing equation is that any good product fitted in a poor manner becomes a poor product. The Mastergard has addressed this and only uses trained and authorized VSIB installers. VSIB is a not for profit company that has directly been a part of Manitoba’s over 82% theft drop in vehicles and has overseen 185000 installations. They have detailed an in-depth installation standard and requires a high quality of excellence to be able to be branded a VSIB approved installation. The pricing of the Mastergard product includes all of these as the product can only be sold fitted and installed to the VSIB Standard.

The GM Hummer lines are priced at $550.00 plus taxes. This is the product, two user keys, installation, installation supplies and VSIB registration costs. Pricing can be volume reflected and this can be addressed should this be something your club is interested in.

2. The length of time is expected to be 3 hours. This may either be roughly a ½ over or under depending just on the vehicle specifics and condition. So you know, when a vehicle has an issue or has already been fitted with other electronics the time for installation can go up but within reason remains at the $550 price.

3. It is important to note that remote starter vehicles are not included within this pricing and can be fitted but only at additional costs. You haven’t asked for this so I will just address it in order to make you aware. Most people don’t realize that remote starters and immobilizers do opposites and therefore take additional work/products to address.

4. The concern about pricing not being listed. Well it is due to several things... the type of vehicle, the shop rate where you are asking for a quote (Alberta pricing starts at $850 for the same product due to higher costs), dealership versus non-dealership pricing etc. The manufacturers just can’t quote a price since it would become very complicated and subject to changes as the market changes.

I hope I have address all of your question thoroughly but if not or should you have any additional questions please just let me know and I will be happy to assist.

A little about what we are offering as an installation company. We have installed this product since 1996 and have been fitting security hardware in vehicles since 1992. I have been a part of the IBC’s security standard writing and directly a part of Manitoba’s hardening of vehicle at risk which they have been highly successful in. We pride ourselves at being a caring and excellent facility that has a passion for the industry. I look forward to seeing your Hummers and being able to be a part of your solution.

There are a lot of security solutions out there but only one that has the success ability an immobilizer does. It is the best “bang for the buck” and is expected to provided service free protection for as long as you have your vehicle on the road.

See I'm more in line with this, this would help eliminate any future thefts by this individual. To solve a problem, remove the cause. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... oflmao.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rotflmao:' />

Is anyone interested in one of these systems? I'd like to get back to the guy in the next few days if I can. I am seriously considering one.

Hmmm!! good to see im not the only proactive thinker. Wow!!The second one is a little harder to explain to a judge. LOL

On a more serious note, I took the liberty of posting some of the theft info on the HML and Flash Off Road. For some reason i could't get on HCX. Might be worth it for Cavin to post a more detailed thing on those sites and others.

I was driving up Parliment Steet at Lakeshore. At 33 Parliment there is a place callled Crown Rust Proofing. They have a Hummer H2 exactly like the stolen one but with different wheels. I stopped to get some info and the guy was very suspicious when i mentioned it might be a stolen Hummer and started getting a bit wierd so i couldn't take a pic.
