Interesting Martin.. I believe there are a lot for rules and regulations in the Car/Truck industry that is stopping them from doing the rolling chassis idea....AMG does not want to become a OEM dealer of Trucks..they told us that out flat..
As for the 100K ticket.. I agree it is a bit high but you are getting a brand new HUMMER... when was the last time anyone could say that? and when was a Brand NEW HUMMER available?? as for the Kit car idea.. this isn't some imitation truck.. this is the real McCoy.. the same chassis, hubs, suspension, body, hood, dash, etc as a Humvee today and not made by a third party but by AMG themselves and rolling off the same line as the trucks are made on today.
As for the doors, that was one of my concerns as well.. cold and theft is a big concern to me too.. but I do believe you will have an option for an insulated soft top.. they are available on the market today and there are softtop driven in the winter so I believe that would be okay. But the doors are a concern.. maybe the option of the steel X door might happen, not sure...
There are about 15K in options from AMG on the truck, like CTIS, AC, and I think some other creature comforts.. can't recall them all...but the truck does come painted..it has three options.. Tan, Green, and Khaki..very military like..
I would say you are gonna be close to 100K for sure, no matter how you slice or dice it..but maybe there will be a business that will buy these and then build them for resale..would you but it for 100K then??
The price of 69K gets you in the door faster and allows people to work on them at their own pace and not be out of pocket 100K upfront.. also since these are the same bodies.. everything will be bolt on ready from the existing trucks, that is the nice thing..
They did make a statement that this isn't for everyone, and HUMMERs never really were, but I truly believe that these will sell..the southern sates have a lot of tour companies and businesses that need trucks like this..and the factors that are negatives to us Canadians will be not an issue for them..to sell 50 trucks to me seems like the easy start.. it will be what AM General does to follow that up? Will they make changes, options, or differences after the first fifty? Will the market demand differences and how far will AM General take this? To me I believe that AM General has learned that there is a need for a truck to be on the market again and here is their first attempt to put one out there and to answer the public's demand.
What happens next is yet to be seen but I believe we are at the beginning of something very cool...with a lot of options and custom changes possible..and of course a new era for Hummer/Humvee...and CHC was the first to officially hear about it.. This is exciting...
