Sandy, yes. Slick rock, double yes.
Trivia: does anyone care to know why they call the gripiest wheeling surface there is, slick rock?
Answer, when the pioneers came through southern Utah, usually Mormon pioneers, their wagon wheels were ringed with steel and their horses wore steel shoes. Although the sandpaper like surface is grippy with rubber tires it was wicked slick with steel.
There you go - Moab trivia.

The Moab event was a fantastic success! I'm just thrilled how everything turned out.
5 trucks from Alberta, 1 from Ontario, 1 from Quebec and trucks from all over the US. We had 4 guys from Holland attend the event, and now they're making plans for next year. It was amazing.
My only hope is that next year turns out as well as this year did.
On the last day we had an exceptional event happen. We had a group go out and the trail was washed out - what happened on that trail will become part of the event legend. H1's, H2's, H3's.... All were there.
I'm just thrilled with how everything turned out.
Can someone who attended the event chime in? Be honest, tell it like it was for you. As the organizer I have a bias.

5 grand from Ontario is about right.
If you drive your hummer there and back...
14 nights at $200 2800
Fuel--30 hrs each way plus7 days off road---8 tanks at $100 800
food b,l,d per person $40/day *14 560
event costs, 275
fun drinks hmmmm say 100
rough total so far .....4535.
This does not leave much left of the $5000 .So it seems like a good estimate.
Wise to have second driver just in case
Add one adult to this and price goes up roughly...750
So 5285 with no repairs yet.
If you trailer hummer , add $500 more fuel
This is what I have set aside with some repair funds Extra $2000 just in case, or if no breakages ,wife's spending allowance. Praying for something to break
[/quote]
Just did an add up on all expenses........
Just over $6500 for the trip with 4 people.
Now , time to do a complete checkover and repair all.
After the first 2 days, a new BJ was replace due to extreme wear, Idler and tie rod as well. TC had new BJ's and will be replaced before he off roads again.
Front end parts and uni's were wearing out fast.
One guy whom had some bad luck, lost a t case, front uni, cv shaft, on one hill. Then another uni plus loose parts a couple days later.
All together, trip was worth more than all repairs and costs.
I have over 30GB of pics and vids to sort out. Thats how nice the area is!!!
Thanks Greg for a great event. Only issue was the Durango Inn, best recommendation is another hotel like the Holiday Inn that is less than a year old with lots of parking. More event time in Aztec would have been nice!! BUT not as scary as Black Bear or Easter Egg.
Crap those were HELL on the nerves.

Thanks guys!
I'll start planning next years trip in the next few weeks.
If you're interested it'll be the middle of September next year.
I do plan on adding a day in Durango, on easy but super scenic trails near Ouray. Ledge roads at over 13,000 feet!!!! Abandoned mines, ghost towns - very cool - and then Moab! It'll be epic.
I'm really glad you guys could make it this year. It was nice to meet you.
BTW, Easter Egg Hill is difficult - and then you meet 'The Intimidator'!. Scary as hell. Jeez, I get goose bumps just thinking about it.
