Ya it caught me by surprise, was just driving on whitemud doing 80 when the front just dropped...the wheel was actually rolling right beside me and I tried to side swipe it to knock it down, cause I knew what kind of damage it could do, but I missed it and it rolled no lie 3 blocks before it rolled up a hill and hit a tree. Luckily people around me saw the tire come off and they moved out of the way and let it roll by lol. Called AMA and no kidding they had me on a flatdeck within the hour, in rush hour traffic...guy even walked the 3 blocks to get my tire. Can't say enough good things about AMA's service. Part that passed me off was all the ignorant comments people yelled as they drove by cause I slowed there day down a little. As for damage no body damage but it slid on the knuckle so that was toast and being a fabtech part wasn't cheap and neither was the overnight freight charge of 300 bucks that took them 7 days to delivery but wasn't there fault grrrr...but ya cost over 2 grand when all was said and done...I got some pics on my phone I'll post later...from what people tell me they've never seen a wheel break off like it did...Napa replaced the hub cause it was under warranty , so that saved me some cash....wasn't a good experience lol.
Hey Gaza, I've raced cars for years and lately I've raced NASCAR Outlaw Hobby Stock cars. Fairly cheap racing with American cars on an oval - lot's of rubb'n. Anyway, the parts we use on the front end are critical, especially the right front. I hit the wall twice (once really hard) when I had a right front failure. You basically lose steering and brakes, it doesn't end well. What we learned is that there's a BIG difference in quality on some parts. The part that was failing for us was the actual rotor, the wheel bolts right to it. After it broke 1/2 the rotor would still be bolted to the wheel
We found that parts 'made in USA' never failed, they cost a little more, but they ended up saving a lot of money and effort.
If you have a choice, select parts that are American made - in my experience they're just better.
And since I'm talking racing..... I set a world record about 7 weeks ago at the Texas Mile. For a super charged street car in the standing mile. We did 230.7 mph! It was a Ford GT making more than 1500hp. The car was sponsored by, and owned by the owner of Pulcinella Restaurant in Calgary. It was a wild experience - actually insane would be a better description. Anyway, I degrees.
