So far from what i have read there is not much possibility of doing the C series in Canada.
The government seems to have pretty stiff laws on kits and the definitions. This sucks big if true.
Maybe others can read through this better but from what i see it is not encouraging news.
http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/roadsafety/tp-t ... aq-689.htm
So from what i gather we may still be able to import them but they would not have the kit car designation and would enter as a complete specific vehicle and im not sure exactly what that means in terms of tax levy's etc. May well be better off that way as well but who knows.
Kit car would be just that with no actual mechanical hummer parts UGG!!!
You should read through the whole of the document.
I guess it boils down to someone deciding that hubs halfshafts and differentials are parts of a kit

I only know in Ontario the laws are under review. Changes will make many Classic/ Custom cars illegal. requireing cats on older vehicles almost entirely wipeing out engine swaps and rat rods. So even a MTO employee might not help .

Re: The Am General NEW Humvee C-Series
I found this news out from Fox News last week - they had a good article on it. The price tag without an engine is not very exciting at 59k. I am selling my 1995 H1 with an engine and transmission and even if a buyer purchased it, put a new engine, paint job, etc., it would still be well below that hefty tag AMG wants for the shell. If it wasn't for my horse sanctuary, I would never part with the truck - but putting them first - need the barn finished before winter and repairs to the home. I am hoping in the future to eventually buy a wagon - better for the huskies to travel in <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
If anyone is interested in buying the kit, let me make it easier, buy my truck for way less and then you can do all sorts of things to it.....or I could sell pieces to you. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Re: The Am General NEW Humvee C-Series
The best thing about this announcement so far is that it means critical frame and other Humvee/H1 parts will be available for our H1 brothers . Like H3 Alpha's with Silverados and Avlanches ( Escalades)

Re: The Am General NEW Humvee C-Series
Ok folks,
I found a guy in Ontario who builds kit cars and he said it can be done. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ght_on.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':right_on:' /> to start we need a detailed packing list from AM General to submit for "pre approval" for import to transport Canada.
There are some things that are allowed and not allowed to be imported as part of the kit so this is the easiest and fastest way to find out where we stand.
Soooooooooooooo, Derek...... get the list from AM and send it off; now damn it, stop reading this!!!

Just because I drive a HUMMER don't mean I don't care about the planet.... in fact it means I can get to most parts without any help!

Typical sounding loop hole. If something can't be part of a "kit" you import it as a separate item on a separate delivery. There are all kinds of these types restrictions on things, and almost always perfectly legal ways around importing them. My concern is the statement "Changes will make many Classic/ Custom cars illegal." posted by Shotgun-Cam. Although many of these things get mis-interpreted somewhere along the line, it is still concerning to hear those words.

Re: The Am General NEW Humvee C-Series
May not be as difficult as it seems, purchased a KUBOTA RTV 1000 last year and in Alberta we have to register off-road vehicles. The 1000
comes with a full cab. wipers. heater, signal lights etc. The registry didn't know what a Kubota 1000 was so I told the clerk it was a
small truck she replied that a lot of these Japanese serial numbers don't go into the computer and she would have to contact someone in
thhhe provincial government to get the okay to over ride the system and allow me to register this small truck. A quick fax by her was answered by the province and approval was given. I now have a fully licenced and insured Kubota RTV in Alberta. Have never tried diving yet in Calgary as I'm sure I willed be pulled over very quickly and have to do some quick explaining. Don't tell them it's a kit car tell them it's a car from Japan you never know might be these same clerk I dealt with.

Re: The Am General NEW Humvee C-Series
The Act thus far is open to interpretation in a lot of ways.
I say it don't look good as far as importing kit cars go. There would be a ton of restrictions on every mechanical part attached to the frame and any asshole inspector could ruin your day along with the fluidity of regulation here. You would be breaking the law to import AMG parts after the fact as a second shipment of parts and the project would risk impoundment. Kit cars and manufacture have zero credibility with goverrnment.
Better to import as a complete vehicle and try and meet the standards creatively. Once you can get one vehicle passed you can set presedence for future imports. The down side is it may have to be built in the USA by some company other then AMG and then exported into Canada complete. Preditor is one such company that may be able to build to Canadian Standards but you will be paying well over 140k for a finished and passed truck by the time it rolls across the border. Which sounds about right based on 2006 alpha prices.
60k for the kit plus 60k for Preditor's work plus HST/duty =140k
AMG could not afford to meet the USA standards little own the stringent Canadian standards and supply finished trucks, but Preditor and a few other upper end places could, providing there is a demand for individual trucks and the willingness to pay on the part of the importer. For example a 60k Hummer H1 in russia has no standards to meet but you pay 40k import tax on the truck no matter if its a bucket of bolts or a perfectly good running truck. Here in Canada you would just be forced to meet standards like with any vehicle and there would be no Kit Car exemption based on the completeness of the kit.
As far as trying to become a Canadian Hmmvw builder for the purpose of resale i would say our government steps in to screw us again.
There is just no winning without bundles of cash or policy litigation.
Anyway we need a lawyer who knows the act and can help us work around it. That is looking pretty clear.
