Found H3T Slantback Top

Okay found the H3T's Slantback its from snugtop available from G-style in the U.S. costs 3000.00 ( OKAY I added a few pennies like 5)

Thing I hate on H3T is the under slung spare had two Mini vans with these An 85 Toyota LE van with a bar and bolt system unit broke when lowering spare , then rusted out. and a 94 Voyager cable system rusted out and dropped spare on a driveway (hit a bump and it dropped fortunately not on hwy).Same system used on 2001 Jimmy but never had to use it. Add to this their hard to get at to check or to change.

if someone could do some measuring ,I was thinking of making a proto type . sketch should include pocket locations.The pic shows a light duty rack. Mine will be a lot stronger to hold some weight.

To prevent the spare from falling out accidentally the H3T has a secondary latching system... if the spare loosens off or the cable breaks the latch engages and holds the tire about 6" down. While a clever way to prevent accidents, it of course has it's own problems... as I found out when replacing the 33" spare with a 35" one.



When I was out this summer my spare actually loosened off, the secondary latch kicked in and somebody pointed it out to me on the trail. I tightened it back up and went my merry way without a second thought.



Flash forward four months later. As I was attempting to lower down the spare I noticed it would only drop down about 6"... yes indeed, the secondary latch had engaged and simply tightening it back up and down again did not disengage it. So being the smart fellow I am I referred to my H3T handbook and sure enough there was a procedure to disengage the latch and lower the tire down.



According to the book you simply pull out your jack, take 10 minutes to wind it to nearly the maximum height and then place it underneath the center of the spare tire, raise it up and it should disengage the lock. So after an hour of fiddling this retarded tire over the jack and pushing it up and down, side to side... I started to get pretty pissed off. Had I been stranded on the side of the road with a flat, I would have had to been towed.



Luckily for me I was at home, so I hoped onto the computer and searched the interweb for answers. As it turns out there is another procedure, one which GM shops use and yet they withhold from customers. You actually have to tighten the tire all the way back up to the top... then over tighten it and listen for two distinct clicks. This actually resets the secondary latch... eventually. However don't be surprised if it continues to engage over and over causing more frustration.
