H3/H3T Heated Washer Install

Once again, my wife has lovingly pointed out that on her Jeep she had a washer fluid heater. I had installed the heater and she never really said anything so I assumed she never used it. I guess I was wrong. I was at Princess Auto a week or so ago and noticed that they had these Microheat HotShot washers on sale for $35. I grabbed one as they are about $100 online. These are literally the same ones GM put in their trucks a few years back. The box states that this kit was intended for Hyundai but they are all the same.
This is the kit. It comes with most everything you need. There is the heater, mounting bracket, wiring, hose, screws, and other hardware.

I made a custom bracket out of aluminum to mount the unit right next to the washer fluid tank. I anodized it black. It is a simple design you could fabricate with tin snips and a vise if you don't have a shear and brake available to you.

This is the bracket that comes with the kit. It has a plastic clip molded into it to snap the heater onto it so you have to use it. I added a small clip to the lower right for reasons that will become clear soon.

This is the washer unit. I shortened the ground wire considerably as it will use the factory ground location on the fender. The smaller wire is a voltage sense wire which is used to activate the unit.

This is where we will mount the unit next to the washer tank.

This is the custom bracket installed. It uses the bolt from the tank mount. Notice the bottom of the bracket located behind the small molded tab on the tank. Once it is on attach the factory bracket.

The little tab on the lower right is for extra stability. It probably is overkill but better safe than sorry. Simply hold it up to lip of the tank and tighten the screws.

Clip the heater onto the bracket and attach the ground. Connect the hoses and run the positive wire to the battery. I ran the signal wire to the rear defrost circuit instead of using a regular switched source . The defroster has a timer on it so the unit won't be on all the time.
