MPH to KPM changeover

Post by Mike_Luchia »

Good day all,

I have a 2004 H2 that currently has a bad instrument cluster that the dealer I got it off of us paying to have it replaced. This vehicle originated in the US but is now with me in Canada. It currently has a combo MPH/KPH speedo in it, with preference to MPH. The dealer tells me that if I want to have it replaced with a straight KPH one, it will cost me an extra $250 which I'm not willing to pay. I can get a KPH overlay off ebay for about $100 with shipping. My question is, if I get this overlay, will the speedo still be calibrated so when it is showing KPH it is correct.

Here is the overlay I am looking at. http://cgi.ebay.ca/w...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Being my H2 is Yellow, this will make a nice change and save me $150 at the same time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mike I would love to hear how it turns out. I picked up my HUMMER in the states for a song and also have the MPH, Not that big of a deal for me because I am used to converting. But I would like to hear how it works out.

Cheers, Sean

I am wondering if they are charging more because of the software changes that will have to be made to the bcm to convert the whole cluster to metric. An overly should work as long as the notches for the KPH marks are in the same place as they are on the MPH gage face.

With both the MPH and KPH the 100 KPH is slightly past centre. With the KPH only, 100 KPH is top centre. I know it's only 4 KPH difference but it would be nice to have it accurate. I sure wish they would just make the KPH overlay with the 100 KPH just offset correctly.
