Tires

Post by Khamul »

G'Day everyone,

Here is a topic that I would like to get as much feedback on as possible which I also feel would be very useful for newer owners and making the right decisions as I have been finding out - your rig is only as good as the rubber!

I would like everyone's input on which tires they use and why.... I have Procomp Mudders on my H3 Alpha which I love in summer but pissed me off in the snow... still working on propper airing down but that's another issue. I also noticed today that I have a gash in the sidewall as they do not have sidewall luggs to protect them. Thus I do not reccomend these tires to anyone!. Now on my H2 I have BFG At's which aren't too bad - but still not an aggressive tire.

Most out west have gone with Toyo MT's which seem to be the way to go as their performance has been quite impressive. Big Pappa Pump (Harold and his 06 H1 Alpha) uses Super Swampers, but not sure if they are good for every day driving....

So let's get everyone's experience on this as I would like to know as I will be putting new Rubber on the H2 when (if) my H3 ever sells.. So before I go with Toyo's.... wouldn't mind expending my knowledge base....

I have always shied away from Goodyear as I have found that they do not last.... I've swapped out wranglers after only 18k.... How are the MTR's on that aspect?

Also width? I have 12.5 now but alot go with 13.5's... how do they compare for added traction versus wear and tear on the front end components?

I have not worn down mine too much.. seem to be ok so far..I went with the 12.5 to avoid the rubbing and but I know Kev has 13.5.. maybe he could pipe in here and talk about them, I know he has done a ton of research and is very knowledgeable on this topic..so Kev??

Our H3 is on Kumho Roadventure Kl71 MT and at 3 months in they are excellent. Wish we had deeper snow to try them in.

I am going to throw my hat in for the Toyo "Open Country" M/T's

Magical off-road bite & great on road performance without the highway drone. They look great too!

Awesome - let's keep it going as we're getting some good info here...

Kumho: Those look like really nice tires but they don't have a 37" in a 17" rim

Crawlers: Yeah - Those look like the cat's meow, don;t think best choice for an all-round tire... How are they in the snow? Can't help but notice they only have 2 sizes?? Luckily the 37" is my size!

How long have you had them now?

Anyone else for some input?

Wondering if anyone has had experience with Nitto tires.... The Trail Grpler and the Mud Graplers... look like nice tires but wouldn't mind some experienced input with these...
