Capital & Labor International Coalition Calls for Hummer Motors Summit
Hummer Stakeholders Worldwide will meet in Chicago April 11th
CHICAGO, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Thane Ritchie, founder of Ritchie Capital Management, announced today that his recently formed fund management firm, the Capital & Labor Int'l Coalition (CLIC), has called for a "Save Hummer Motors in America Summit" here in Chicago.
"We have researched the GM/Hummer situation for the past month," noted Ritchie, who is Chairman of CLIC, "and we believe that Hummer can be saved and continue to offer great jobs and products to America and globally."
Steve Denari, CEO of CLIC added, "We are assembling all of the Hummer stakeholders together in one place to work out a 'coalition' solution. Our discussions thus far with the United Auto Workers (UAW) executives at the Hummer plant all the way through to the Hummer owners' group leaders have been hugely positive."
Already confirming to attend the summit are Doug Ebey and Glenn Geiman, the President and CFO of the UAW Local 2166 respectively. All Hummer state owners' group heads, worldwide dealers, AM General-Humvee executives and GM's CEO for Hummer Motors are being invited.
Denari also stated that CLIC senior management has met with US Senator Roland Burris and asked his office to act as liaison to any aid that can be afforded by the US government in this rescue Hummer endeavor.
Senator Burris' office has confirmed the talks and his desire to see what ideas come out of the Hummer Motors Summit, so that he can see what assistance can be offered by the government to help to save Hummer.
The Summit will commence at noon in the Hall of Fame Room at Coach Mike Ditka's Restaurant in Chicago, to be followed by a press conference at 4:30pm at the same location.
Ritchie's final remark on the matter was quoted as, "Although it is April 1st, our vision for a resurrected Hummer line is for it to produce, pound for pound, the GREENEST vehicles made in America, and that is no April Fool's joke."

Hopefully, they will save Hummer Brand to keep it running under GM management or they will sell it last second deal how it happened with Saab. That time they also announced winding down of Saab brand but last second deal with Spyker Auto was signed! So let's hope for better!

Illinois Senator Roland Burris will investigate General Motors’s handling of HUMMER this week following reports that GM had left viable bids on the table. Late Monday, a member of Burris’s staff confirmed to HummerGuy.net that the Senator planned to look into the matter this week.
Senator Burris wasn’t able to attend the Save HUMMER Summit in Chicago over the weekend, however did send a “Special Senatorial Liaison” to the meeting who briefed the Senator in his home later that evening. Following that meeting, Senator Burris committed to investigate the HUMMER situation upon his return to Washington DC Monday, and brief executives from Capital & Labor International Coalition (CLIC) later this week on whether the GM talks were proceeding.
CLIC is hoping for an “acquisition by coalition,” which would involve cooperation with private capital and U.A.W. resources. Union representatives from both HUMMER production facilities were on hand to hear the plan and are running the idea up the chain of command to the International U.A.W..
What may be the most challenging part to CLIC’s plan is the re-opening of negotiations with General Motors, however the legal team handling the HUMMER matter for GM expressed to CLIC they were willing to take a viable offer back to management for consideration.
Raser Technologies wasn’t able to send a representative to the summit, but Frank Jenkins, the president of Electric Motors Corporation was in attendance and expressed frustration with the process of completing a transaction for the HUMMER brand. Electric Motors Corporation is based in Northern Indiana, and focuses on electric powertrain system for Trucks, SUVs, and RVs, and was also part of the bidding process for HUMMER – though reportedly hadn’t made it into the sale process as far as Raser Technologies.
Illiana HUMMER Club president Mark Price was also on hand to offer perspective from HUMMER owners and enthusiasts. The club is one of the most active, regional HUMMER organizations in the country and spends a significant amount of time training for and responding to natural disasters around the Midwest.
We’ve yet to hear the nuts and bolts of how a deal like this would go down and in what fashion, though it sounds like CLIC has lined up an impressive crew of venture capitalists and attorneys – which when combined with the right political players may be able to pull off a miracle.
It’s still a long-shot for HUMMER, but we’re keeping an eye on any progress that might be had.

A “Save Hummer” summit was held in Chicago last weekend.
The event lasted five hours, and renewed the hopes of some that the iconic brand could be rescued from extinction.
“I mean, if they're going to throw it away, tell you what, throw it away, our way, and the coalition will take it over and make it a fine company,” said Stephen J. Denari of the Chicago based Capital and Labor International Coalition (CLIC).
CLIC organized the summit that was attended by the President of the Electric Motors Corporation (now based in Plymouth). “It will certainly still be a challenge, but I don’t think it’s impossible,” said E.M.C. President Frank Jenkins, commenting on a possible purchase of the Hummer brand.
CLIC is advocating a strategy of “acquisition by coalition.” That’s why the summit was attended by labor leaders, Hummer drivers and dealers, as well as interested investors.
Denari takes issue with General Motor’s decision to discontinue the Hummer line, after a deal to sell the brand to a Chinese company fell through.
“You know, it’s not only a wrong thing to do, we think,
It’s somewhat un-understandable given the fact that they're in a bankruptcy and they're supposed to do whatever they can to sell things off, get as much money as they can and hopefully pay back some of the 50-billion dollars that we as taxpayers lent them,” Denari told News Center 16 in a telephone interview from Minnesota.
From Thomas Jenkin’s perspective, the challenge with the Hummer brand has always been fuel economy. Jenkins believes that EMC’s (The Electric Motors Corporation’s) technology is a perfect fit to make the brand more viable.
While U.S. Senator Roland Burris, (D) Illinois, did not attend the summit, Denari says Burris has agreed to raise some serious questions about the Hummer situation on Capital Hill.
“It’s the first time in history you can go over GM’s head and go to the like, what we like to call the real commander and chief of GM and that would be Mr. Obama. He removed their CEO last year, and put a hand picked fellow in so, that's our court of last resort,” said Denari.
Denari says his next step involves meeting with Senator Burris on Thursday.
A spokesman for U.S. Rep. Joe Donnelly, (D) Indiana’s 2nd District, declined comment, when asked if the congressman had anything to say about the coalition to save Hummer.

Investigate whether General Motors has declined to take viable offers it has received for its Hummer brand.
Illinois U.S. Senator Roland Burris says he plans to investigate whether General Motors has declined to take viable offers it has received for its Hummer brand. Burris says he plans to see if reasonable offers were ignored by GM and explore the impact on UAW workers. He has not asked for a Congressional panel to investigate, but says he plans to brief members of the Capital and Labor International Coalition on his findings later this week. That's the same group that hosted a "Save Hummer Motors in America" summit this past Sunday in Chicago. News reports have surfaced saying that two electric vehicle conversion companies -- Raser Technologies and Electric Motors Corporation have both made offers to buy the Hummer brand but have been ignored by GM.

Penn & Teller’s Bullshit
Hummers are stupid and wasteful and if they go away because no one wants to buy one, that’ll be just a little sad. It’s always a little sad to lose some stupid. I love people doing stupid things that I’d never do—different stupid things than all the stupid things I do. It reminds me that although all over the world we humans have so much in common, so much love, and need, and desire, and compassion and loneliness, some of us still want to do things that the rest of us think are bug-nutty. Some of us want to drive a Hummer, some of us want to eat sheep’s heart, liver and lungs simmered in an animal’s stomach for three hours, some us want to play poker with professionals and some of us want a Broadway musical based on the music of ABBA. I love people doing things I can’t understand. It’s heartbreaking to me when people stop doing things that I can’t see any reason for them to be doing in the first place. I like people watching curling while eating pork rinds.
But if any part of the Hummer going belly-up are those government rules we’re putting in on miles per gallon, or us taking over of GM, then I’m not just sad, I’m also angry. Lack of freedom can be measured directly by lack of stupid. Freedom means freedom to be stupid. We never need freedom to do the smart thing. You don’t need any freedom to go with majority opinion. There was no freedom required to drive a Prius before the recall. We don’t need freedom to recycle, reuse and reduce. We don’t need freedom to listen to classic rock, classic classical, classic anything or Terry Gross. We exercise our freedom to its fullest when we are at our stupidest.
There’s a lot of bad stupid around. Really bad stupid. But we can’t stop the real horror by stopping just-plain-stupid stupid. We’re not going to stop overseas wars by stopping people from driving big stupid cars. As long as we think that “nation building” is part of our destiny, no amount of independence from foreign oil is going to stop us from getting into meddling, expensive, immoral foreign wars. As long as we let terrorism fill us with terror, we’re not going to get our nonstupid freedoms back. Our government declaring that we need alternative energy sources, and betting our money on who might get a smart idea, is not going to give smart people smart ideas. It’s really easy to see stupid all around us, but I don’t think we want to be too quick to stop it. We need to protect other people’s stupid to save freedom for all of us.
