This is a pretty despicable stunt by the OPP;



Ontario Mini Club setup a charity cruise recently, they did everything right, they even went as far as to responsibly informed the police of their route.



So they meet an officer as they head out, he tells them that it is just him and another guy patrolling this section of the highway... in other words, go nuts.



They kept it to a minimum, stick to the middle lane where they go a bit over the limit but are passed by many other vehicles doing in excess of 140km in the fast lane.



Suddenly out of nowhere a giant mob of police cars shoots out and cuts off the entire group, A-channel news also pops out of nowhere and next thing they know they are front and center for the 7:00pm news. A-Channel reports they were all charged with street racing, had kids in the car and had their cars confiscated. None of which was true, in fact the club is fighting the ticket because they were "estimated" by an "Ariel patrol" which cannot be verified.



Basically the OPP set them up as a publicity stunt.

Just goes to show that you can never trust "Da Man"



I remember when I was in Ontario - the OPP never did have a good reputation! Doesn't mean they are all bad - but when they do stunts like this.... doesn't help!

^^ That is just it, you would think that if they informed the police they might even be inclined to give them an escort as it was for a good cause. It is really terriable they used it as an excuse to setup a sting.



At least the CPS are not even close to this bad; I did a charity cruise for cancer a few years ago and the CPS escorted the entire group and even went as far as re-directing traffic at major intersections.



I just can't get over how underhanded this was, OPP is out of control.

Sucks for that run but let's be honest what do you expect when you involve law enforcement it's not like their around to do anyone any favors <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':crazy:' />

I think this is a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. The officers who were on standard patrol would not be involved in the arial support to catch speeders. This should have been solved by the kind police officer notifying the com center of the rally and notifying the CO for the day to see if police escort could have been provided. Obviously, this did not happen and the result was ... well... less than complimentary to the OPP.

^^^ The speculation right now is that they OPP invited out A-Channel news to film the sting on the Mini Club.



A lot of the Mini Club members mentioned they were being passed by motorists doing in excess of 140km at the time, the OPP didn't go after those motorists at all... they went after the club only.



It sounds like the entire thing was planned out to me, you have an officer basically dropping hints that they might look the other way if they want to speed a bit... which honestly isn't that unusual for a charity cruise (CPS here often escorts charity cruises at higher than the speed limit) then a massive sting operation that only targets the club for which media was invited to film well in advance.

Too bad the OPP dosn't put the same planning into removing natives from illegal land occupations.

Yeah it is a bit of a shame when a club goes to work with the police on something like this they back stab them... I don't know what the OPP was thinking? Maybe it getting near the end of the month and they were shy on thier quota's?



I know that if you miss your quota's in a city police service it can have consiquences on your long term career.



Usually the last week of every month here stories start to pop up on forums of unjustified tickets. On the 29th somebody mentioned they got a speeding ticket for 5km over the limit, another guy mentioned he got a tinting ticket while parked in the back of a fast food lot eating a burger. They usually run tinting stings this time of the month as well where they just pull over everybody that has tinted windows in a checkstop format.

this is truly sad..and an embarrassment
