The "shaw Gmc" Thread

Post by Sugarphreak »

Time we got one of these rolling, this way we can see if anybody has tips or tricks for dealing with them... in addition to things to watch out for.

Of course the horror stories are the main attraction, mine is quickly heading that direction!

So post your Shaw story!

I don't think these types of problems are exclusive to Shaw GMC. I recently had my '06 H1 in at Southgate Pontiac Hummer in Edmonton for some electrical problems under warranty. I normaly do all my own repairs but this was under warranty. A few days after getting my truck back I was walking by it and noticed something in the L.R. wheel well. Their butcher, oops,"tech" had cut open about 8" of the protective sheathing on the wiring harness and then took his diagnostic chainsaw or axe and peeled back about a 1/4" of the insulation on four of the wires and left it like that. I have had previous "disappointments" at SOUTHGATE HUMMER.

I contacted the service manager,Rodney, and expained to him the situation. I explained that I did not want his "techs" to repair my wiring. I told him I wanted the butchered harness replaced with a new one. He said the harness was very expensive. I explained to him that it would be much cheaper than leagal fees and court costs that I would be awarded because Iam sure that every judge in the country has been f#@#*# over by a dealer at one time or another. My new harness is on it's way.

I will get the ball rolling;

So after the power steering pump failed in my truck I took it into Shaw GMC to look at. Got up at 5:30 in the morning, dropped it off with them at 7:00 and then took their shuttle bus getting me to work at around 8:45... late, but there I guess.

During the day, they said they would call at around 2:00 to update me. The call never came, I ended up calling them around 4:00 and they said they would call back in 20 mins with the latest.

After work I left early, maybe around 4:10... took the shuttle. At around 4:45 (still on the shuttle) they called me and told me everything was good to go.

Arriving at the place maybe at around 5:40 I learned they had deemed the power steering A-OK! Sure it didn't work and it was blowing fluid all over the engine... but somehow they thought this was normal and gave me back the keys to my broken truck after I left it with them for the entire day. They kept blaming my tires for being too big.

I tried to argue otherwise, but they simply rejected my suggestion that it was the power steering system and instead told me if I was really worried I could bring it back the next day... although he warned me that it might be the big tires that caused the failure (I assume this means I would have to pay)

So getting back in my broken truck I noticed my cup holder full of bolts... they had yanked off the skid plate and thrown it into the box like a peice of garbage for me to re-install myself.... Gee thanks.

Flash Forward to Today:

I get my Onstar report today... oil life reads 0% has a big red box with an exclamation in it. I have apparently missed my oil change and it is now overdue, a condition which could affect my warranty. But how could this be!! I had my oil changed at Shaw only 2 months ago...

So I call them back today to find out what is going on, they give me the old "Oh I don't know why the computer didn't accept the oil life reset"; uh huh

I had a chance to mention that the power steering pump was NOT ok and confirmed that it was actually toast, he suggested I bring it back in. politely I said "no, I already have plans to have it fixed somewhere else...", I could hear the strain in his voice as he realized just what a bunch of amateurs they look like and how any future business from me was now slipping away. He said things like "well I wouldn't want to pay to have it fixed" and "Does the place installing it offer a warranty on the work"... as he fiercely protested my decision.

That made my day a lot better.

Booyah!!!!

I think my opinion of Shaw has been adequately expressed over various posts so I will simply say that I will not be using them at any point in the furture.

I will actually move forward on a positive note. Fridays are always slow for me so I decdided to pop down to E-Mortal customs here in Calgary and meet Will face to face and I must say I was extremely impressed with his knowledge base!!!! I have kinda gone in a new direction with my mods. I was going to do most of them myself but have decided to get it done there once enough funds in the Hummer Piggy Bank" have been attained - I plan on putting in the rear spacers, replace the stocks springs with new upgraded Samco springs, upgraded shocks and the suspension max keys in the front. He will also install at that time a front end re-inforcing kit on the control arm, idler arm, and ball joints as I guess GM stock simply does not cut it for what we do. Eventually mine will go to so may as well hit the nail now to hedge against future "Tow - outs" from the trails.

We were always hacking on Brian (I'll be the first to apologize) for his wheel spacers.... (Although I will still go with new rims as I still gotta get my shots in!! Image) but I think the biggest thing that is impacting the trucks and the front ends, is how we tow each other out of the holes. Listening to Will talk about the front end made a light suddenly turn on, as that strain would be causing alot of stress on the front end and who does alot of the towing out...... B-Man!!!!

So I'm thinking we hire a bunch of Babalicious models of our own and have a charity fund raiser here in calgary with proceeds going to the "Hummer restoration project of Alberta" and get a volumne discount from Will at E-Mortal!!! What do you think!?!?

Nice to dream anyways....

P.S. .... shaw gmc Sucks!

Okay short list for Queensway Hummer in Toronto front diff and transfer case rebuilds x2 a month each

-front brake line retainer left unattached from above job bolt was in swing arm clip was on line. reattached by us

-skid plate bolt lost and 2 line retension clips broken and not replaced till 6 months after them being reported after an Oil Change

and complaint lodged with dealership manager

-stained ( oil) headliner after diff and transfer case service never cleaned ( we cleaned it ourselves)

The problem is GM is removing service contracts from dealers ie Queensway lost the GM service contracts to Humberview for the Saturns which Queensway sold. So now dealership has little or no incentive to give better service.
