Just wondering if Hummer Owners Prepared for Emergencies (HOPE) exists in Canada?

I'd be interested in becoming a member if it does. I tried searching the board, but as you can imagine "HOPE" returns a lot of results.

PM me about HOPE Canada so that I too might know what I have to do to become certified....didn't question about it at the Rally...was having too much fun!!

I will put up a general announcement about HOPE Canada over the next two days.. watch for it..

Sounds great, I was looking into it several years back but had no luck. Hopefully I can get my act together over the next couple months and get my H1 back to great health <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

HOPE ..

HOPE is a program that currently resides within the United States and there are only a couple of current standing members that reside within Canada. It was an agreement between the American Red Cross and the Hummer Club Inc. The Canadian Red Cross was approached many times and have declined to be part of this, We will be approaching them again, looking for their support and offering our services but to date there is not a HOPE Canada.. we are looking for another National organization to be affiliated with but have yet to find one.

If you really want to get involved in emergency help programs you must be very careful that you are qualified and insured. You may simply help tow someone out of a ditch and end up wrecking the other vehicle - even if it's not your fault - you can end up liable for damages. There have been many discussions like this on US forums.



A sound approach is to join your local Search and Rescue group. This is a commitment to training and becoming a qualified SAR team member. Even if you do this, if you use your own vehicle and it ends up damaged or damaging someone or something else during a rescue your auto insurance may not cover you. It is wise to discuss this with your insurance company.



HOPE is a good idea in a place where the Hummer population is large enough and the emergency needs warrant external support but I don't think most of Canada comes close. Groups like the Red Cross have to be very careful who they are associated with for liability purposes.



If you really think your truck and driving skills are extraordinary enough to provide exclusive emergency support then you can always talk to your local police, fire and medical services and see if they want your help. I know a guy that uses his 4x4 (just an old jeep) to take doctors/nurses to and from hospital if they get stuck in the snow - informally.

I think HOPE stateside is .. fairly inactive. I know a few people who signed up on HOPE but never,ever got activated [California wild fires, etc].



A few volunteers inquired [not part of HOPE] with the red cross and if I remember correctly, the response was a polite "go away" in the form of "You would need documented proof of X million dollars in liability coverage...".



I don't think Law enforcement or Fire want private individuals with personal owned vehicles getting involved because it opens them up to liability issues.



I think the best bet is to join* a local professional search and rescue group and check with local police and fire departments on what to do.



*- watch out for the radio wacker-wierdo clubs that drive around with 10 million antennas on their cars, with illegal strobe lights and more often than not, get busted for impersonating an officer of the peace <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />.
