H3 Field Kit (Alberta)

For those of us running H3's on trail runs with the club here in Alberta I was thinking about putting together an ultimate field kit.

The way it would work is the original members putting it together would all select and agree on the items that go into it and split the cost. The benefit of course is that we gain a lot of security when on the trail without having to all purchase spare parts or consumable items individually. This group would be known as the Alberta FKG (standing for Field Kit Group... just makes it easier to write for the rest of this).

Members joining the FKG later on would do so by paying into the kit cost, that would be divided up among the existing members. If somebody comes out on a trail run without joining the FKG and they need something from that kit due to a breakdown on the trail (such as a spare part or consumable item), they would be required to pay a bit of a premium for it.

The kit would have an inventory list, on the list would be the "cost" price which would be the replacement price for FKG members and also a "Non-Member" price which would only be fair to the members that had to pay into it up front. The extra money would physically stay with the kit and be used towards future parts... or beer.

Finally to get out of the FKG the existing members could either agree to pay them out or if certain members are strapped for cash parts, tools or consumables from the kit at "cost" price could be given to the member leaving in lieu of cash.

Thoughts?

Now that's a full kit....only question is ..if you lock the keys in the Hummer, are the extra keys not inside....or are they only if you drop your keys in a mud pit (like a lost licence plate??)

extra keys are always in pocket, and yes it covers, mud, water, over a hill, etc.. not so much locking inside, not many thief in the forest so not a big need to lock my truck out there, unless I am Tanky..<img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... rgreen.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I haven't determined what will go in it yet. I want to get a group together first and then go over some of the common parts failures & problems. The other thing is determining what situations we could still limp or tow a vehicle out despite the failure VS critical failures where we would have to abandon the vehicle and come back later.

The kit has to give a lot of bang for the buck, if it is just me & JL going in on it, it isn't really feasible to put together one that costs 2000$.

I was thinking a few common socket sizes; extra nuts and bolts that are common to the front end; maybe one of those air bag jacks; a huge breaker bar; Fluids, hose clamps, spare parts, ect.

I like your list btw, it will be going into my notes!

I forgot to include the Hi-lift I always carry, and the shovel too, as well as my complete socket set, and complete tool box. Extra bolts are a great idea, I will make sure I put those on my new shopping list for the next trip off road.

Also cordless impact drill is good, I think Roy has a deal on Dewalt ones....I need one still but somehow when we go off road, there is always one.

don't forget chain saw too, one guy should have one, TC always carries his when we go out, and it came in handy a couple of times..

now it will depend on the trucks that go with you, you will need a spare parts list for each truck...the other major stuff doesn't depend on truck..

good luck with the field kit build, I would like to hear about finished product..

Not a big fan of high lifts; I ended up tossing the last one I had because it was a safety problem.

I was thinking about one of these for the kit, what you you think?

This is a great Idea!! I like Derek have a fully stocked hummer, including Air compressor and Air tools and I have both the high lift and the Bushranger X-Jack...the original...the titan is a copy...email TC he can get you one from ARB...they are great...I can lift an H1 with only 5psi!!! I have so many spare parts in my Hummer that that is probably the reason it weighs close to 8000lbs!!! But then again I have special under armor too!!!

Great Kit and Great Idea Nick!!!
