Us H2 Or Canadian H2 ?

Post by WIBS »

Hi, if you have been following the H2 prices in Canada and in the US.

You know that especially the 2008 model, the price difference is quite huge.

I saw on the US auto trader, a 2008 H2 is selling from $ 34,000 USD that's about $ 35,700 CAD with today's exchange rate.

The cheapest 2008 H2 that I have ever saw in Canada was $ 45,900 CAD sold at a dealership called: Easthill Fine Cars.

The rest of the H2 that was sold in Canada is around $ 53,000 and up for the 2008 model.

And for the 2009 model H2......WOOOOW the dealer is selling a used one for $ 67,000 ... if you go to the GM website that is the price for a fully loaded brand new 2009 H2. The dealer is selling a used H2 for a brand new price.

Is it worth it to buy a Canadian version or is it better to find one in the US ?

I personally think the US still has the best deals on H2's and importing it yourself is a breeze...I have done it twice now and no problems....I got a 2005 H2 about a year and a half ago from California and I paid $18,500 US when the H2's in Canada were still in the $30,000 and up range. There are a few threads on here about importing from the US so read those...it is really easy. If you need help or want some advice on importing...just PM me...

I think your pocket book can speak for itself.Just need 2 trips to the US. One to see the vehicle, and the other, to drive it home.

You need fax confirmation at the border crossing 3 days in advance, not counting the weekend and they are closed friday at noon.

Also get the vin. and verify thru RIV (Register Import Vehicle) that this vehicle can come into Canada. On my experience, all you pay is the HST on the converted selling price.

The dealer can get you a trip permit for 30 days.

Hope this helps.

PS: even the cost of a couple nights stay and a flight, will take a very little bite out of the difference.

Not to be critical, but I spent ALOT of time looking for my H2 before I finally landed it off of the US Auto Trader web site.

I'd almost guarantee that your $34K 08 H2 will not have a clean title, i.e. accident vehicle, theft with damage or something similar. Either that, or the mileage is thru the roof. I would have grabbed an 08 up in a heartbeat if I could have found a clean low mileage one under $40K.

I bought my 07 for $37,900 with 24K miles on it, and the truck was well worth the price. I drove it to Calgary in July for the Waipourous run, and the in-laws were so in love with it that they started looking for one.

Not being very familiar with the areas around Western Canada, I searched anything I could find on the internet and couldn't even come close to finding even the same deal as we got on our 2. I actually don't think you could get as good of a price on a 2 here in the States without a lot more work trying to find it. I was on line for weeks (actually 2 months) before I locked ours down.

Now, you have to understand when I finally found ours, I was looking very specifically for extremely low miles so I could still have warranty. I also had to have white with tan interior, and just for fun, I wanted the air suspension for trailer towing. Yeah, lots of work---but it paid off. I absolutely love having the air suspension for towing our 28 foot travel trailer; plus the added benefit of using the compressor for airing things up is paying off in Spades.

So I guess the trick is how long you're willing to wait before taking what you feel is the right deal for you. Right as we were buying our 2, I found a Special Edition 06 in Arizona listed with 4K miles and at an incredibly awesome price. I almost jumped on it, but it seemed way too good to be true, so I pursued ours and absolutely love it.

Good luck in your pursuit!
You ain't havin' fun until it comes home on a flatbed!
