With many highways closed and over 300+ cars in the ditches and many people sleeping in their cars because they cannot get out, we wish all our local members safe travels and if you are out helping others, please let us know how things are going and if you need help, we have local members ready to assist if needed...just say the word and I am sure people will be willing to assist if possible...

Almost wish we could have sent in a Hummer convoy!

Would loved to have helped out, but likely best to leave the rescuing to the professionals. The local snowmobile club was helping and the military choppers were lifting people out when visibility allowed. Sad thing is how people were driving around the road closed police barriers this morning, only to get stuck a few mintues later.



If it isn't safe on the roads, please stay home and be safe... unless you are traveling with a group of Hummers, then go off-road!

Watched the news this evening - that wasn't even funny!!! Glad to see how quick Canadians are to jump in and help wherever they can...



Didn't see any stucks hummers though..... a few jeeps and trucks...

Now is a good time to review We all should in winter carry candles, matches ( in spill proof containers), some form of long term food ie candy bars, extra socks if your feet get wet, a shovel or two, a warm blanket ,coats ,hats and mitts. these are self evident but also a small heat proof cup to melt snow in to drink. and toilet paper just in case any time you venture out of urban setting.

Problem with the 400 serries highways is the fact that like on the 402 one or two vehicles get into trouble blocking foreward movement then more traffic blocks backing off the roadway till the blockage is cleared.

Alternately one loses it on an off ramp and becomes a seesaw stuck in a snow bank ( Kevin did this with his Jimmy ) solution is either a tow or lowering the snow bank till the wheels get a solid grip. Its done by shovelling one or two shovels of snow from alternate sides ( to stop truck from falling on to side or sliding into shovelers) with long handled shovels.
