Just thought I would get a discussion going about three different types of tires and what your feedback is on them.



The tires being challenged are:



1. BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2



2. Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar



3. Yokohama Geolandar M/T Plus



What would you consider to be the best all-around tire?



I am looking for comments on noise level, street use, off-road use, overall wear, snow, rain, etc.

Interesting! do they make a 37x12.5R17??

I have the Pro Comp Mud Terrain 37x12.5x17. They have deep tread (20/32) and large side biters. I feel vibrations from the course tread at low speeds when accelerating or braking, but they run smooth on the highway. They do hum down the road, nearly as loud as my flow master exhaust. They are great in rain and snow up to 1" deep, just tip toe right through it, where the old bald stock tires would pull and splash water up onto the windshield. Off road they have been good, got a few rock bites from not airing them down enough, but given what I've driven over, I've very impressed.

I have the older Goodyear MT/R's on Hutchinson two-piece wheels, without the Kevlar.



They are good combination tire, very good off road (but not like a dedicated tire, such as a Super Swamper for mud).



And their on-road qualities are excellent.



Never a bad choice for a combination tire.

I have Goodyear MTs military OZ on a two piece rim with run flats... I love the original look and they have done me just fine so far, low road noise and worked just fine in snow and clean road...



I just prefer the original..

The mud terrains are not very good in the snow (unlike their all terrains), the geolander are a very good on road tire, but not very good off-road.



The MT/R's are the best all around tire. awesome performance offroad, and very good performance on the road. Road noise is more than the geolanders, but less than the mud terrains.



Ps: Toyo's just plain suck.

Any BF Goodrich, never had a bad tire with them yet, and they balance the best out of all the tires I've ran over the years [the best for oversized suv/off road tires].



BFG AT KO, KM or KM2 or the BAJA T/A projects.. The BAJA's are pricey as off road race tires but there's 3 versions of those, the military 16.5" tire, the "projects" T/A used by many desert racing teams and a updated pattern based on the KM/KM2.



If you got family/friends in the US Southwest you can look around the various desert racing classifieds and get a nice set of barely used tires for cheap as 37x17x12.5 is a common size for racing. I've seen sets go with 80-90% tread for $100-150 ea vs paying 600-700 new for them.
