saw a photo the other day of a H1 with the hood all Dynamatted (don't think that is a real word but oh well i am sure you get the picture)

what is the deal with that? will that actually quiet the ride down??

thoughts and experiences would help here...

I have seen kits but always wondered how well they "stuck" in place due to the high heat off the engine. You will notice that the snow on the hood reduces the engine noise so there is some truth to adding something to the hood to help out.

I can say that adding dynamat to the underside of the engine cover and doghouse will significantly reduce the heat and engine noise. The majority of heat is trasnferred to the tunnels and thru the transmission shifter. The 2001 and later model years added the silicone heat boot that will cut down on the "extra" warmth you get during summer but want during winter.

Also add some insulation to the underside of the windshield frame for extra noise reduction. The noise vibrates thru the entire body there.

I bought mine with the Dynamat under the hood already and as you can see from the photo it does get hot!...My H1 is a lot more quiet than all the other Hummers I have driven....but keep in mind all the other Hummers were half door US Military Humvees....so not much comparison!

Not burnt just blackened...but it is hanging off in the middle where it was melted a bit by the heat.

Dynamat can only withstand so much heat before melting into a pile of goo. I hear it gets flammable after a certain amount of heat as well.
