Good morning my Family,
Just thought I would make a post on an important topic that really has never been addressed. It does involve alot of common sense but innocent things happen without realizing your situation at hand.
Heard on the news this morning that a 4X4er wheeling alone in Waiparous, Alberta on Sunday got stuck and spent the night out there. Couldn't get the truck out so they walked for 6 hours to get help on Monday...
Wheeling alone may normally be fine unless you are going on difficult trails as long as caution is adhered to BUT it doesn't take much to get stuck this time of year and a bit of cockiness can do alot of harm. This is the main reason that I will not wheel unless I have at least one other person with me in another vehicle but preferably more. If you are fully geared to the hilt with a winch and the proper accessories and equipment - then you should be fine.
Most aren't!
Really brings light to the importance of a club and the safety it brings along with the comroddery! Also why you shouldn't wheel on Sundays as Saturday he probably would have been found. We ran into a stuck Chevy that I had to pull out on our last run. Jethrow in his pick-up didn't realize that bald tires don't provide good traction, I bet they were great on the street though!!!<img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... oflmao.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rotflmao:' />
Just thought I would share this for the newbies as once you join thus club - we all watch out for each other!

Re: Stranded!
I heard about this on the news and I just had to shake my head at it. Going out alone in areas like Waiparous is downright dangerous.

In this case not so much, there is no cell phone reception in Waiparous at all. When you get stuck out there, you are on your own.

If driving alone ( not recommended off road) always carry a a cell phone and On Star each can fail but better than nothing. Even if just road travelling. remember people have followed GPS units in to really off road areas. Tweed run actually shows as an unpaved road ( love to see some dummy in a street car in there.)

From my experience, On-Star is basically just a cell-phone; I got stranded at the ferry at Galena Bay just North of Nakusp when my idler pulley exploded... My cell phone was totally cut off in that area, On-Star was equally as useless. I ended up getting help because the ferry staff was equipped with a VFH radio & the ferry itself had a radiotelephone that I could call out on.
If you are traveling in remote areas, The best thing to have is either a VFH radio, AutoTel radiotelephone (well supported in BC), Sat phone, or something like the Spot-Connect which can be purchased for about 100 bucks at BestBuy. You are really pushing your luck if you don't have any of these.
