New to H2 looking for answers /suggestions

Post by Monkey39 »

So just bought an 06 H2 120,000kms looking for some help...

Thanks in adnVance !

My steering seems to have a little bit of play ... I read that its a common probally on the H2 or could it just bit that Hummers have lots of play or could it be the old pro comps just messing up the steering ? ( wow reading that back its a very general question that cant really be answered online) Ok lets say its ball joints of something else is the front end is there a "better" item I should be replacing it with ?

the sunroof has been closing pretty slow ..opening fine though... today it didnt wanna close at all ? finally closed ( took forever though) IS there something I should be looking for ? there's nothing it the tracks from what I can see ??

I need tires .... the procomp ats are nearing their life span ... I need a tire that is good on the hwy, good on snow/packed road ( i drive a mtn pass) and looks aggressive ... I had just put BFG at's on my 09 f150 befor trading it in and liked the look but I dont know how it'll look wider...

I was looking at Nitto Terra grapplers and Good year wranglers .... Ideally I would buy Nitto Trail grapplers or Kuhmo Andenture MTs but I just dont thing they would preform in the snow I might take the truck off road a few times a year but I dont think Id be doing anything THAT serious Any suggestions?

Lastly ... the Heater fan seems too cycle on and off when the intermitant wipers are on ? but with the wipers on low full time the heater fan stays on ?

for tires, I have Goodyear Wrangler MTRs on my H2, I like them a lot, aggressive looking and have done me well, i went with 37x12.5x17, need to replace torsion keys to get some clearance so it won't rub...

as the front suspension, it could be a lot of things, if never been replaced,I would check, idler, pitman, tie rods, inner and outer, and ball joints, if someone has been off roading it, it doesn't hurt to replace. Factory ones are okay but fabtech makes some sweet tierods...

sun roof is known to have motor issues....it may need replacing but maybe Steve can help with that one more..

heater and wiper....<img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='???' />?no idea, that is a new one to me...

good luck and keep us updated as you go and fix...it is a fun challenge...always

there was a group buy on here awhile back for Wranglers with Kevlar, talk to Roy or TC, they can fill you in more, no back order I believe and some damn good prices too....

as for the rest.. well my extended warranty just ran out on my 05 H2, so I am back in the boat of collecting OEM parts Image but along as your truck is properly looked after, you shouldn't get a lot of surprises, just need to fix all the crap from prior to your ownership..sometimes it is a but of a pain in your butt but there are a ton of deal if you know what you need out there....and a lot of good advice and knowledgeable folks willing to help out on here...

As far as the steering stuff goes you can get upgraded components but... for a vehicle on a stock sized tire and mostly street driven the OEM parts will last you a long time. Just remember mostly everything on the front end has grease fittings on the H2 so part of regular maintenance should be greasing everything. The upgraded parts are nice for a truck running oversized tires and offroading but personally I'd say overkill for a street driven H2, personal choice of course so it might be worth looking into if you're interested. A lot of the local guys are using the Cognito parts and are happy with them so might be worth checking out their website: http://www.cognitomotorsports.com

For tires take a look at Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac, sounds like just the right tire for what you want. It's more aggressive than a highway tire but doesn't have the harsher characteristics of a mud terrain tire, plus they're supposed to really be great in the snow. And to boot they've got a nice tread that will give you some decent off road traction if you decide to hit the trails. More Info

I think most sunroof problems basically come down to one of two things which is 1) A rusty track or 2) a bad motor. Not sure what's involved to change any of that out though...

The heater fan is a head scratcher... no idea...

looks like you have some common problems with your Hummer. it would take a long time to write all to look for and the common areas to inspect. i can try to break it down to you but if you are close to my shop i can help you with your problem areas. thanks

SO I need suggestions .. took it back and the mechanic said it was probally a bad wheel alignment and at worst be the steering box ... they re-did the alignment and now the play is in the center but there's still TONNES of play he says the rest of the front end is great everthing is good ...

I guess my queastion is should I be replacing a steering box on a 06 H2 120,000kms and 35inch tires ?

If so where's the cheapest place to get one ?

it looks like you may need a steering box but its hard to tell over the computer. i have never replaced a steering box on a humnmer but anything is possible. there is a worm gear adjustment but either way the box needs to be taken out of the truck to inspect. if what the mechanic says is true and all the other steering components are tight then i would suspect the box. cheers
