Marine Injectors vs Regular injectors

Post by dwaxman1 »

Guys,

I hear of a lot of guys swapping out the fuel injectors for Marine fuel injectors, and I am wondering why this is...I have to admit I do not know, I heard maybe something about more fuel come from the Marine ones, therefore a better burn and more then 40 extra HP but not exactly sure, also is it worth the extra cash to do it?

for those that have done it, what is your experience? Also how often or when should injectors be replaced?

thanks and info would be great...

Plain and simple, I have spoken to guys that have used these injectors in the marine environment.

6.5L TD used in marine environment's are not run like car diesels, and generally stay within a very specific RPM band and are tuned for efficiency based on the pitch and size of the propeller. Marine diesel is also a much harsher diesel that is very dirty.

So essentially, what you are doing with this "40HP" upgrade, is you will be dumping unnecessary diesel into your motor throughout your RPM band right up to the optimum RPM those injectors were designed for.

What you will end up doing is "washing" your cylinder walls with unnecessary fuel and you will make your mileage worse, realistically, more fuel will lower your EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) but only to a certain point.

What you need to make power is more boost. More air pressure coming into the motor, especially if it is cooled with a intercooler will yield you proper power. Our motors were never designed are not modification friendly as their cousins, Duramax, Cummins, and Powerstroke.

so what you are saying Tom is that the Marine Injector upgrade is not worth it? You will suck more fuel??

I just got a set of the Fuel Miser injectors from SS Diesel.

These are supposed to be designed for this application not like the marine injectors which are just like Tom said.

On the dieselpage, alot of guys had really good reviews of the Fuel Miser injectors, with reports of good improvements in Milage, power and drivability

accroding to SS Diesel they are supposed to add 25HP and improve milage up to 20%

I am in the process of installing mine now, but it will be a few weeks before I have all the truck put back together to give you a seat of the pants analysis...

The kit cost me $450 and included all brand new injectors, the crush sleeve washers (plus extras), all new return lines, gaskets for the intake manifold, I also orderd the install tool, but it is just a deep 30mm socket with a rubber bumper siliconed into it... at least it is a decent quality socket...

I believe on the 6.5 injectors are supposed to be changed between 100K and 120K
