Need Some Help Troubleshooting Some Minor Issues With My New H1

Hi guys,

I have only had my 1999 H1 Wagon for a week now and there are just a few minor issues with it that I was hoping some of the more experienced members could help me with.

1. The truck came with ignition keys and keyless entry but no actual keys for the doors! Does anyone know if I could contact a Hummer Dealer or AM General and give them my VIN# and have them send me door keys that way?

2.My cruise control is not working I do not have LED lights or anything have checked the fuse. I am stumped?

3.My analog dash clock is running fast is there any way to correct this?

4.Where are some of the usual install locations for Alarm brains in H1's? I have a Viper Alarm but not sure what model it is.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

First off welcome and congrats on H1 ownership!!!

I have a 2001, and the same key for the ignition unlocks all the doors, i think this is the same on most years.

If yours doesnt match could be because somebody either replaced the ignition cylinder and didnt get it keyed to match the truck, this means there will be a different key for the doors, a GM dealer should be able to order you the correct key they will need proof of ownership and vin number thou.

other unlikely reason is that the doors were rekeyed... then you best bet is to see is to see if a locksmith and make you a key.

the alarm brains are usually installed in the center console under where the cupholder and glove box are.(this is on a 2001, somebody with a 99 can correct me if im wrong.)

hope that helps...

In terms of where alarm brains are usually installed, I have seen them in three place; Under the Cupholders by the Factory Keyless Module, Underneath the steering column, and in the left driver side kick panel(easy to tap into locks from there), the latter two are generally for alarms with remote start as they need to be close to the steering column.

As states above, Ignition should unlock all doors except rear barn doors and glovebox, those are different and can be ordered based on the number on the lock (any locksmith can do this). Our keys are actually Ford keys, a GM dealer will be completely useless and only a locksmith can help.

Your cruise control working could be multiple things. The cruise control uses a separate sensor on the transfer case for speed, this sensor could be toast (separate of the speedo/computer) You could also have a short on your brake lights, and it assumes your applying your brakes.

Good luck and Welcome to the wonderful world of the H1!

Hey Tom, wouldnt a GM dealer be able to order him the correct key based on the VIN?

I had to get a replacement key once (long story, was out of the country for 6months, couldnt find the keys when I got back) and I just took my registration papers to the dealer and a couple days later they had keys for me...

That will only work if its a factory installed lock thou...

Only if the dealer is an H1 dealer. Other than that, lock smith or buy a new key lock set.I myself went to an older Ford and took the door locks with keys and replaced them.It is a pain in the a** to replace them. Not much room to get in.

The cruise also has a separate switch at the brake pedal, may be out of adjustment.

Nice Pewter H1!!
