I just switched to a High Mileage Quakerstate 5W30 oil as the H2 has over 200,000km on it and was down a litre between oil changes. Debating on using a synthetic oil.

Yeah, but that thread was started specifically for the 1's...

I'll still post here... I was using Mobile 1 for years and have always been a huge fan of the product. I recently "splurged" and did a complete drive train fluid change over to AMSOil.... Dude, I AM SOLD!

Well worth the money!

Now, I will repeat what I have been told over the years and on a high mileage engine though, synthetic isn't the best choice because that it is much "finer" (Can't find the right word) and you can get small leaks if gaskets are tired...

I have 113k on my 08 and the synthetic runs beautifully... (I pleasure drive alot...)

I'm another fan of the Amsoil.. I just did the full switchover on my H2 as well and it just drives so smooth now... I also run the Amsoil in my daily driver (Pontiac G6) and my supercharged Mustang, they all run noticeably better with the stuff!

Amsoil makes a full line of synthetic oils so you see the most benefit when you change over all the fluids and not just the engine oil. Motor oil is one of those topics where there is a lot of debate, but not a lot of actual data for the consumer so I don't have any scientific explanation for my preference... but the Amsoil is generally well regarded and I have had good results in my own vehicles so I am sold!

oops, sorry Khamul, you are correct....in my H2, I am using synthetic , sometimes, Castrol, sometimes Royal Purple but I am moving towards Amsoil now, bumper to bumper...and I always use K&N oil Filters in all my trucks and cars...all my power steering, brake, tranny fluids have been changed on my H2 to synthetic
