HELP Radio Install

Post by vhukasa »

Okay guys,

I am putting a Double Din Alpine unit into my 2005 SUT, Do I need to get a mounting kit to iso mount the unit? It appears that way, unless I possibly start to file the dash.

If I do need a kit, is there a prefered kit?

Thanks

I just put a double din in my 06 and needed a couple items.. one for sure is the mounting kit for an iso install. Not sure about a preferred kit but mine was just an off shelf dash kit and it does the trick using stock mounting points.

I needed 2 modules to install 1) to retain the factory steering wheel controls and 2) another for retaining the door chimes, OnStar, and I think there is at least one other thing it does but I totally forget!! I'm guessing your new unit has a wired remote input since most do these days, so I think for like $40 you can get the module for the steering wheel controls and keep them working!

I got the Axxess Interface modules for mine (they have a part number lookup online if you're not exactly sure what you need) and they really work very well, no hiss or fizz with these modules and they're SUPER easy to install. I kept double checking the instructions because it just seemed a little TOO easy... but nope just that easy and it works great! I threw out my boxes so I am not sure the part numbers I used for the Axxess stuff but their online lookup works like a charm.

My new head unit was a bit longer than the stock nav unit so I had to cut out some plastic from inside the dash, the dremel makes short work of it though so that was the only minor setback.

Good luck!
